Since I can't seem to get any responses in the OD forum about this combo. I figured I'd try here and hopefully somebody could shed some light. Anyway, in the past I've been fine with the combination of Paxil + GHB, and Lexapro + GHB with no negative effects or drug interactions.

I am wondering about the combination of EFFEXOR XR + GHB, since effexor is an SNRI, Seroontin and Norepenephrine Reuptake Inhibitor. I don't see how it would cause any problems. But if someone could please repond to me and help me out it would be greatly appreciated. I understand that while under an antidepressant medication that I should not be using recreational drugs at all. But I am going to keep my GHB usage limited ie: (weekends only). So if anyone has tryed this combo in the past or would know of any drug interactions, please let me know. Otherwise I don't see how it could be a problem since GHB does not effect either system. As far as I know, GHB only interacts with dopamine and GABA-B.

Anyone???:\

Thanks and much appreciated.

Nobody knows? I thought people on bluelight.ru were quite intelligent when it came to pharmacology. Effexor is different from Remeron, because Effexor is an SNRI, similar to Cymbalta. It's not a tetracyclic antidepressant, so there is no histamine release with effexor.

Bump this thread again I guess.

Your attitude isn't gonna help you get many responses thats for sure.

Anyway at high doses effexor starts to act as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor. Around 300mg's i think. How strongly it acts on it i dont know. What that means in terms of interacting with ghb i dont really know either.

Also i would imagine that the doses that effexor interacts with certain neurotransmitters varies from person to person.

Most people are not prescribed over 225mg's, so effexor is not really considered a dopamine reuptake inhibitor. My attitude was fine, I thought bluelight was the place to come for questions like this but I guess a lot of people on here are not qualified to speak about GHB or antidepressants.

Venlafaxine:
Recreational Drug Interactions
Alcohol, GHB (and related substances), Benzos (Xanax, Valium, Klonopin etc), Opiates (Heroin, Codeine, Vicodin, Oxy etc), Barbituates, Ketamine: These drugs can be safely combined with venlafaxine, and there effects will not be significantly altered.

Hope that helps. Guess like anything if your unsure, start with a small dose.

I guess only people with the blackest of depressions go up in the 300mg dosage range for effexor. I dont even think it starts to affect norepinephrine until you get to around 225mg. So at the starting dose of 37.5mg its only going to be acting on serotonin.

I managed to get as far as 75mg a day i think. Then i just got sick of it.

I was put on effexor in 1994 before it was even approved I think. I'm fairly sure my shrink decided to throw me into a trial without even informing me. I started on 37.5 2x/day. I got increased heart rate and blood pressure, and some nausea and sleepiness. He quickly ramped me up to 75mg 4x/day within about 2 weeks, and the side effects got worse. I complained I was sleeping almost 20 hours a day, so his suggestion was "take all 4 pills at bedtime." I had a fun ambulance ride. Shortly after that I threw the bottle out and refused to let him prescribe me anything else.

To this day I still consider it one of the nastiest drugs I've ever run across. Considering GHB gave me a very similar bad reaction, I don't think mixing the two would be a good idea...

I take 300mg/day of Effexor XR, and my psychiatrist is thinking of uping it to 400mg, so a high dose isn't that uncommon.
