Today, I went to pick up my Methadone and Norco from the pharmacy, I have a valid, legal, and correct perscription. The pharmacist said there was a new process around town, she referred to it as a "Gears Report," that she was required to run on me.

What the heck is that all about? I came back, "approved," to pick up my meds but I do not like special reports being run on me for what seemed like no reason.

Can anyone provide insight into any new procedure for methadone at Walgreens?

I'm thinking it's a data base to ensure people are not doctor shopping or getting duplicate prescriptions.
They were supposed to do this in Florida a few years back but had trouble implementing it.

Maybe if this is a new requirement. But you have nothing to worry about since you're legit.
Curious, what state are you in?

What state you in?

I have friends on methadone, and I myself on Suboxone, pick it up from pharmacy every month for 2 years now and never had anything like this

It is indeed in effect in Florida now. Your doctor can run it at every visit too. The only glitch I have seen is my doctor can see all prescriptions filled annd Walgreens see's just Walgreens and not say, CVS. I do not mean to encourage pharmacy shopping, this was just my experience.

It's part of a new tracking system in place in many states, a friend of mine who is on the "watch-list" could-not get a tramadol script for the pet dog filled!

Yes this procedure is being implemented in many states now, not 100% sure, but I think it is dea orientated. They need your ID, and may contact your doc to confirm your script is valid. And yes it is there to detour fake scripts, as that has reached epidemic proportions! I'm not entirely sure as far as them having some sort of database that collects this information, however I certainly wouldn't put it passed them. But if you're legit, you shouldn't have anything to worry about, just might take a bit more waiting around at the pharm..

And just in case if anyone was curious as to whether or not they're healthcare privacy was protected under hipaa laws from law enforcement, the answer would be... wait for it.. drum roll please....(insert drum roll onomatopoeia here)...HELL to the NO!

Wait what? If anyone has any serious information like sources backing up this "Gear" whatever-the-fuck, please post it because this threads getting closed otherwise, it's pure speculation. I feel for you OP, as a chronic pain patient, but these questions are not Other Drugs material, so it's closure is inevitable.

errrrrrrrrrnt. wrong.

in only six cases can LE get at your individual medical records:

(1) as required by law (including court orders, court-ordered warrants, subpoenas)
(2) to identify or locate a suspect, fugitive, material witness, or missing person
(3) in response to a law enforcement official’s request for information about a victim or suspected victim of a crime
(4) to alert law enforcement of a person’s death, if the covered entity suspects that criminal activity caused the death
(5) when a covered entity believes that protected health information is evidence of a crime that occurred on its premises
(6) by a covered health care provider in a medical emergency not occurring on its premises, when necessary to inform law enforcement about the commission and nature of a crime, the location of
the crime or crime victims, and the perpetrator of the crime

of course, medical records can be illegally obtained by anyone who knows how; but if used against you, would be thrown out in court as evidence immediately.

I, too would like to see some evidence or information sources backing this claim, as I just spent over an hour digging through the internet, and couldn't even find anything RELATED to any sort of "pharmacy gear report."
