EDGERTON, Wis. — When a 15-year-old comes into Wile-e’s bar looking for a cold beer, the bartender, Mike Whaley, is happy to serve it up — as long as a parent is there to give permission.

haha... problem drinking in wisconsin, that's breaking news...

I'd drink a lot there, too. Too damn cold. Drinking and snowstorms go together like peas and carrots. I'm from the south and when I moved to Tulsa Okla one winter, we got snowed in during a blizzard and my friend and I drank shots of Bullitt Whiskey. That was a lot of fun. I'd never in my life seen 12 inches of snow but we had a blast playing football in the snow white wonderland.

damn!

Drunken drivers in Wisconsin are not charged with a felony until they have been arrested a fifth time. Wisconsin law prohibits sobriety checks by the police, a common practice in other states.

if they have reasonable suspicion they can perform the field sobriety tests, but if those are passed then they're aren't allowed to go further than that, i believe?

Wisconsin is the most lenient state when it comes to alcohol ive ever been to.

Theirs a huge rave with no " last call " for alcohol on New Years in Milwaukee.:)

I went to SummerFest when i was 18 & they never id me once & the cops never messed with anybody who looked underage.

The whole midwest is packed with bars & liquor stores.

my parents never took advantage of that law

damn them :p

but seriously, i knew people that took their toddlers to the bars, and they'd let them sip their beers. some peeps is cwazy

yeah some states take their drinking laws WAY too overboard.

Like how in my state how even if you are an adult yet under the drinking age and with your parents for example and drinking wine/beer/a cocktail with a meal your parent(s)/guardians could theoretically be charged with providing alcohol to someone that's underage. 8)

I dont see a big issue with it. I lived in WI until I was 19, and going to the bar on occasion was not a big deal, even if it was with the family. I come from a pretty open minded family who had been providing alcohol for me a couple years before I was even. I never drank and drove, never had any legal repercussions from it.

I'm a native wisconsinite.
and yes, they DO conduct sobriety tests, cops are the same here as anywhere else.
Drinking here is the norm, I personally don't like the toxic feeling and generally feel like shit for days after I drink.
But I still drink, there is NOTHING to do in this damn place, and when everyone around you is drinking and you're not you usually get badgered TO drink..
because thats what you do in wisconsin, drink.
there are lots of teenage alchoholics but you never really hear about them cause they're sneaky.
Yeah, wisconsin drives drunk a lot, but we have a disproportionately low drunk accident rates, so we're pretty damn good at drinking and driving.
now that I think about it.
it would be a really wierd feeling being somehwere that isnt so drunk...

No they don't. Wisconsin law expressly prohibits unwarranted sobriety checks, which are fairly common in other states.

There is a major difference between a sobriety check on a motorist who has been pulled over, and one on every person driving down the highway, which this refers to.

It sort of works like this:

If you're pulled over for suspected drinking they will:

1. Give you a breathalyzer- if you're over the legal limit, you get a DWI.
2. If you pass the breathalyzer, you'll be given a sobriety check. Fail this, you'll get a DWI (or a DUI, I don't understand these terms). Pass it, you're mostly likely going to be sent your way, though odds are good they'll give you a fine for something else, though.
