Some nice bud, but its damp

I got some OG Kush - amazing taste, but a little on the wet side. Its really sticky, so I cannot tell for sure if it really needs curing. Breaking up enough for a little bowl only gets my finger tips a bit sticky, but making a joint gets them damp/whet to the point where its hard not to fuck up the paper a tiny bit. To experiment I put a small bud wrapped in napkins in a paper bag in a grocery plastic bag in my closet for two days. It remained sticky but I think the high is a little more immediate and stoney - but one bud is hardly enough to judge.

Can anyone estimate a good number of days to cure/dry... is my method ok or is there something better?

It sounds like it's pretty fucking damp, if it wets the paper it must be straight off the plant. Just leave it in a cool, dry, dark place until it's only a little moist to the touch. Then stick it in an airtight jar, taking the lid off for a couple of hours each day and replacing it, letting it cure slowly. If this is too long, just skip the jar part. The slower the cure the better though. The way you're doing it at the moment doesn't give the moisture anywhere to escape to, and your dope might go mouldy.

yeah you don't really want to be trapping the moist air with the weed, bad conditions. organic matter + moisture = fail. what yerg said. cool, dry and dark. and preferrably ventilated to some degree.

Thanks for that Yerg. I think it has been dryed to some degree, its not moist to the touch, just a tad sticky, which is nice:) Its only really the center of bigger buds where I the stickyness is more like dampness, but I still think maybe all of it could use some drying. It is a bit hard to pick out the stems as is. I will trying leaving it it exposed in a closet for a bit, if it stinks too much though I will probably smoke it all

Ideally when the bud is perfectly cured the stems should snap when bent. They should not fold over.

When i get bud that is too moist still i set it on a cookie cooling rack for overnight to a day with a fan blowing near it but not directly on it to keep teh air moving in the room. Checking it every 4-8 hours to be sure i don't let it dry to much and get crumbly.

Never realised drying was such an epic mission for everyone. If I get wet/sticky bud I just put it in my little tub wit teh lid off, leave it near the window half an hour and boom dry.

Does the whole glass jar thing really make THAT much difference?

Drying it out quickly doesn't let the chlorophyll break down, so the smoke is harsh and tastes "green". It also has a tendency to dry unevenly. It makes enough of a difference to be well worth it IMO.

This is good advice but with weed that you buy I feel like it's not even really worth it to put it in a jar and try and cure it. I just let the bud dry out and then smoke it.

nah not really. only when you do it from start to finish does it have an appreciable effect.

Paper bag method is good for emergencies.

A slow cure will result in a much better taste.

Oh, so curing is pointless if i'm buying it, only worth the trouble when i'm a hardcore grower 20 years down the line?

Man I just dry my bud in a piece of paper for like a day and its good to go. The best piece of advice I can give you is buy a coffee grinder. Best stoner invention ever.

or an herb grinder. you can get an herb grinder and bust your weed up one dose at a time for 20 bucks. or spend money on a coffee grinder and have to plug it in and store something way bigger then what you need. It seems wasteful to own a coffee grinder just for weed. It's not a good idea to grind up more then your gonna use anyway. you break up the tricromes and dry out the herb that way.

if it's wet you probably got ripped off (water weight). i got hash that was still wet before (it was freshly pressed). i didn't get quite the amount i paid for; he pinched it by about .25g. but i got enough for it not to matter too much and it was great after i let it sit under a light for 4 days with a fan lightly blowing in the back -- maybe no need for a fan if you live in a dry area, but this was in a humid climate

i've also gotten great bud from the dispensary that wasn't fully cured. i think that's why it was discount price. i remember trying to smoke some at first and not even being able to draw smoke from my pipe. so i set it out for about 5 days under a light with a fan going then it was perfect

the amount of time you need depends on how much it needs to be cured etc. this is hard to gauge exactly sometimes but it gets easier with experience

5 days seems liek way too long, it would be crumbly after that. I have never needed to dry herb for more then 8 hours. I had a home grown crop once that i cured for 3 days. But ive never had to cure purchased herb for more then 8 hours.

maybe it depends on the strain. all i know i is it was too sticky and hard to pull apart to smoke before the 5 day mark. after that it was perfect
