Wow, I leave for a few days and when I return it seems like I spend the better part of my time pounding my keyboard in disgust as I delete/close posts... we really don't have many STRICT RULES in here... but here are a few ideas for policies ..
===
Policy #1 - NO DOSE THREADS -
===
You can ask about the *suggested* doses for various drugs, but NO MORE of these "How much ______ should I take for a buzz?" threads ..
===
The Reason?
===
There are simply to many varriables involved.. you can NOT SAY with any degree of certinty that there is a "right dose" for someone.. when you take substances for *recreation* the amount needed can vary ..
===
The Solution?
===
A thread will be posted in which we will take a survey, this survey will ask about the doses of various substances.. we will, of course, need to know such things as your weight, age, sex, etc..
Say, IF SOMEONE WANTED TO COME UP WITH A FORMAT AND LIST OF SOME COMMON DRUGS and then maybe send it to me VIA EMAIL, well, this would be a great way to get noticed and respected - believe me, a LOT OF YOU are lacking in the latter department..
--------------------------------------
===
Policy #2 - NO 'QUICK RESPONSE' threads
===
The reason?
===
First, these threads serve a very small audience, this wastes bandwidth, space, time, etc.. secondly, if you feel that it's *SO* urgent you must make the subject "^^^^ I NEED A RESPONSE NOW!!!!!@@#^^^^^^" then you shouldn't be using the drug ... take the time to look it up .. usually these are DOSE THREADS anyway (see Policy #1)
===
The Solution?
===
Use the search function, refer to the comming document as described in #1, hop on IRC and ask..
===
-----------------------------------------
===
Policy #3 - STRICT SLANG CONTROLS -
===
This is ALREADY a policy but no one pays attention.. if you are going to refer to a drug, act, or anything else in the "hip slang" that you hear on "the real world", take the time to [in brackets or something] indicate WHAT THE FUCK YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!
No, NOT EVERYONE KNOWS what substances "foxy", "ice" or "wet" refer to.. nor does everyone know what "slippy-flipping" or "cocoa puffs" means .. so take the time to TELL US!
===
The Solution?
===
I know, this isn't "cool" .. well, we will implement a system known as the [dork bracket] system... anything in [brackets] will NOT BE HELD AGAINST YOUR LEVEL OF COOLNESS nor will there be a deduction of STYLE POINTS for anything typed in brackets...
For example, we all know yo be bling blinging it wit da biddies, and that if you use some forgine terms you will be viewed as MUCH COOLER.. so you might want to post something like this:
"sup dawgs? I was at my boys and he busted out wit a coolie [a cigarette with cocaine added]"
See?
Slang varries from area to area as well, so unless it is a GLOBALLY ACCEPTED TERM (ie "acid", "smack", "beans", "rock", etc..) please use the [dork bracket] system ..
----------------------------------------
That is all I have proposed for the time being, but hey, lets hear your ideas as well..
We *TRY* to run this like a democracy, so if EVERYONE agrees that it is VITAL we allow people to post "URGENT ANSWER NEEDED" posts, so be it...
Because it seems Other Drugs is really it's own little world, policies will be enforced by OD MODS (theres 4 of us) .. there are ALSO a number of "shadow mods" - people whom SHOULD be moderators, but are not as we are limited to 4.. some people (such as TheTripDoctor) have the SAME POWERS as moderators - they might not have direct access to functions such as 'delete' or 'close', but if THEY FEEL IT SHOULD BE DONE, they know how to bring it to the attention of someone who WILL make it happen..
Ok, feedback...

People need to STOP POSTING WHEN YOU HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT, YES YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE . its the people who think gee this looks like something i can answer, when NOTHING ELSE is "something you can answer" noone wants to listen to what you "THINK" is right, and it pisses off everyone when you show us how fuckin dumb you are.
Second dont assume everyone else is as stupid as you are.
Third no more posts with JUST your opinion, i ASSURE you that i nor anyone else give the slightest fuck so dont fucking do it anymore, noone cares what you think about a certain drug you should damn well know this. I have seen way to many posts asking about something and actually requesting that noone yell at them or lecture them about how bad it is, THEY SHOULDNT HAVE NEEDED TO ASK THIS. so stop it right now.
Fourth, no more one or 2 line bullshit posts, you dont need to just jump in and say "yea haha i agree" noone gives a fuck at all, nor do you need to completely talk about something else entirely, NOR DO YOU NEED TO ASK PEOPLE QUESTIONS LIKE "oh hey xxxx what are you doing tonight long time no see?" and then they respond, this is NOT WHAT ITS FOR. STOP IT.
anyone who doesnt stick to the rules needs theyre IP and nick banned or at least kicked for a period of time, or restricted from posting (maybe to a certain number, watch what you post it may be your last for the month) a while.

Yes, yes and yes. The slang thing really needs to be done, for example even "beans" [hopefully MDMA] isn't as well known as some of you think, if you wonder round europe asking for beans nobody will know what the fuck you are talking about!Even "rolling" is pretty regional, it's used in the USA and Australia but people here won't know what you mean. Phrexx [supreme ruler designate of the universe] seems to have to right idea on this one.
One other little thing: Can we also ban Grif from posting until he sorts out his bad breath?
Harry

Would that be banned from Otherdrugs? Or the whole of Bluelight????

This would be completely unreasonable but it could do wonders for the some of the questions on this board. If everyone read TIHKAL and PIHKAL by Alexander (Sasha) Shulgin - one third of these questions on this board wouldn't have to asked. He it's the guy that developed all these funky chems: 5-meo-dipt, dipt, 5-meo-dmt, family of 2cs etc.. He goes into long details about almost every aspect of hundreds of drugs, from chemistry, to synth, to group trip reports based on varying doseages, and on and on.
And hey, you might learn some chemistry in the meantime.
These books aren't easy reading but it's a wealth of information from the godfather of numberous psycho active drugs.
I HIGHLY recommend reading these books.

excellent points my friends!
All above rules seem fair.

Good rules, but I think the "answer immediately" posts should be allowed. That, or redirect them to the chat room.
And damnit Harry, if you'd stop trying to stick your tounge down my throat, you wouldn't notice how bad my breath is! sheesh.

I agree with all of the above and would like to add something. I never ask questions but can understand how some might get frustrated when someone responds by telling them to search at erowid.com or search the internet. That's what this board is for, to ask questions. If the poster is not going to get an answer, or at least a suggestion of what to look for at erowid.com or on the internet then the bandwidth and space does not need to be used for a smart-ass no help response.

I think these are all good ideas, but I don't know that it should be made "Policy" as much as "Guidelines." That is, these are the suggested rules of conduct, but not enforced by an authority figure. Just my two cents.

Hommie slip jobbie 'dem werds be smackin! [i like the rules]

oooo actually how about a new one:
the subject line must contain useful information about the thread. no "question" or "lucky me" or whatebver. i want to know if i want to read a thread by reading the subject, not by having to guess what it's about, clicking on it, and then wasting a minute or 2 reading it and it be a shitty thread.
so i propose a new rule: the subject line must contain at LEAST the drug that you are gonna be talking about. and try to be despriptive to what it pertains to ABOUT that drug. threads that have the subject of just "acid" or "coke" or "dxm" or whatever.. those are annoying, too.

I second that motion... if you're topic won't get any attention without resorting to using "teaser" titles, then it's probably not worth posting in the first place.

All sounds good to me.
I've got to disagree with TripDoctor somewhat on his opinion comments, however. I post pretty rarely, because I'm well aware that - especially compared to others - I don't know dick. When I do post, it's often a matter of my opinion. As long as the topic is an experiential one, I think opinions can be relevant, as long as they're not passed as fact. Preaching to someone is another story, and I'm guessing that's what you're talking about, but I wanted to clear that up.
Another suggestion: Perhaps you could start a newbie class, underneath greenlighter, that only allows new users to read and not post. Make it last just a few days, so hopefully it'll force people to do a little digging before signing up and posting right away. It seems to me that a lot of the stupid questions are asked by new kids that were just to lazy to look for the answer themselves first.
Oh yeah, one more thing: Please remind everybody that instead of posting a follow-up response when they forget something, they can edit their earlier post and add it there. (Like I did with this one)

People usually tell the truth but we must clamp down on bullshiters. Even though they are funny to begin with they are just creating illusions that may be detremental to the reader.
Most of the posts I have read by Greenlighters are intentionally trying to taunt the reader & this they must'nt do if they want to continue posting here.
People should'nt give information about drugs if it is just stuff that can be read at easy to find sources. Good information should contain fresh material or atleast be intellectually stimulating.
You need to be more descriptive in the way you describe the experience. Murple was really good at doing this. I don't just wanna here 'we took some pills last night and got really fucked'.

i think it should be a requirement for every greenlighter to read every page on erowid...

roches' opinion on the dork bracket
best we be implementin sum kinna super-dork bracket system fi makin comments so wack you be representin tha nerd kru *itself* when you be usin them...
[It may prove to be necessary to implement a system by which particularly obscure or academic data may be concealed from the wretched hordes of philistines which inhabit boards such as this; Roches et al. (2001) have proposed that braces or curly brackets be used as "super-dork brackets" in addition to the extant system of square "dork brackets" implemented by C. L. PhreeX (2001).]
example:
ice [methamphetamine] {N-methyl-1-phenyl-2-aminopropane}

I think the tripDoctor needs to smoke a coolie...
Anyway, my pet peeve is people not researching information that is readily available. Can we post a permanent link to Erowid? My second pet peeve is the drug testing questions, but that could also be solved with the erowid link. The rules sound good to me.
Peace

oo what about a little coding that would require people to read the rules of this forum.. and like it'll scroll through them at a nice reading pace.. but they can't go on until the little java/flash/whatever app is done going throug them, then they have to write in "OKAY" to say that they read them but then it sets a cookie so you only have to see it once.. but still have it be required to read to even read posts.
oh and roches: "curly brackets" are called "braces"
