The chemical structure of many entactogens contains a substituted @MPHetamine core, and most belong to the phenethylamine class of psychoactive drugs, although several (AET and AMT) are tryptamines. Entactogens are sometimes incorrectly referred to as major hallucinogens or stimulants, which is often thought to be incorrect although their effects are often somewhat similar.

1. the onset is much more rapid and speedier.
2. the peak is more focussed, less tactile, less euphoric.
3. the come-up and peak are linear and predictable, unlike the waves of MDM@
4. at higher doses, the plateau has somewhat more psychedelic type body/visual distortions than MDM@.
5. the come down is sharp and fast.
6. after effects feel more toxic on the body and sleep is often hard to achieve.
7. bk-mdma is far more effective when ingested- hardly at all when insufflated.

MMAI has been shown to relieve stress-induced depression in rats more robustly than sertraline, and as a result it has been
suggested that SSRAs like MMAI and 4-MTA could be developed as novel antidepressants with a faster onset of therapeutic action and superior efficacy to current antidepressants such as the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Additionally it may relieve symptoms for up to one year, or an entire lifetime of the use.
