SWIM has taken Somas recreationally a number of times and never experienced or worried about nasty side effects. This last time, however, SWIM took 3 Somas at least 8-10 hours after SWIM took at 4-5 and promptly fell asleep. Here's where things get king of weird. SWIM's gf was sleeping on and off next to him and she reported that his entire lower body was having spasms. She also told SWIM that when she prodded him to stop, his muscles tensed up as if in an effort to do so and the spasms stopped briefly. SWIM doesn't remember any of this and can only conjecture that he was fast asleep through the entire incident. For reference, SWIM was only asleep for less than 4 hours and weighs approx. 140 lbs. Can anyone provide any insight into this or relate to the experience? It would be appreciated.

You probably had a dream.. nothing to be worried about mate.

This is a bit weird as Carisoprodol is a muscle relaxant...
My best guess is that you had a paradoxical reaction to it. Has this happened to you during the use of Benzodiazepines or similar drugs?

p.s. Don't use SWIM here please. There's no need to do so ;)

Yes carisoprodol is muscle relaxant, but at high doses it often causes one to lose control over their muscles and this can often result in "the soma shuffle" or "soma shakes".

It sounds like this is what happened to you, except that you were asleep when it happened and therefore dont remember it.

Soma is an odd drug and has a very fine line when it comes to dosing. A certain dose might be perfect one day, and the exact same dose might cause you to have shakes and tremors another day. -DG

+1
I've had this same episode happen to me. One day, I took 4 soma and did not feel much. So the next night, I dosed only 2 pills and promptly "fell asleep". I woke up with my entire family surrounding me, telling me I had "a seizure". This has happened while conscious as well, and it is a result of "overdosing" your Soma. Like daddysgone said, this drug has a very strange dosing regimen. Don't worry, there's nothing to fear. It was simply a reaction to taking too much soma.

i've had something similar to this happen to my ex-bf, but he was wide awake. i had just given him a shot of h, and about 5mins or so later he just started spazzin out.
he was tellin me a story right before it happened and he kept talkin thru the whole thing - i was tryin to get him to sit down, but he couldn't control his muscles and he was kickin and punchin in all different directions.
it really freaked me out - lasted bout a min or 2 and then he was fine. i've never had this happen to me before so i asked him, wtf was that man? and he said he just had no control over his muscles. he's had seizures with other drugs before too - mostly benzos, but that particular one was really weird.

Oh wow, that's strange but interesting and makes complete sense.
Thanks for letting me know :)

I, too, have had these effects while awake (and perhaps while sleeping but, sleeping alone, I would not know). Once was from taking just 700 mg while only a few days prior to this I took 1050 mg and redosed another 700 2 hrs later with no ill effect.

It is indeed a very odd drug but it's risk and reward - potentiates opiates quite nicely.

I'm thinking of trying a carisoprodol / butalbital mix with my opiates but am awaiting feedback on this potentially dangerous combo. All of the good ones are ;)
