Feel free to delete if this violates the rules but I’m looking for some pretty basic chemistry help

In theory I’m looking to turn a few MSIR 30’s into a smokeable product via elimination of the sulfate group and conversion to freebase morphine

Suppose id be utilizing baking soda, what is the best way to determine the ratio of measurement to use for 2 tablets?

Hey @Voxide :)

You’re right that this isn’t something we typically deal with here in the Harm Reduction forums. We typically stay away from anything that could be labeled as “drug manufacture/synthesis”. However, we have a history of providing information regarding for instance, how to turn “powder” Cocaine (Cocaine Hydrochloride) into a freebase. It’s pretty easy to see the parallels right?

With that being said, what you’re trying to perform is a pretty basic (no pun intended) chemical process. I know that the typical process involves using a strong acid to separate the salt from the base. This would mean something like Hydrochloric Acid generally.

I can see that the process of turning the hydrochloride salt into a base is pretty straightforward. My question would be what role would the binders/fillers play in this process? That is what I’m not entirely sure about.

Otherwise, the process involves getting some Hydrochloric Acid, performing the correct proportions and measurements, then starting the reaction. From everything that I’ve read, it’s incredibly easy. Just dig a little bit and make sure your math is correct.

I was just thinking though, I know Dextromethorphan commonly comes in a syrup, but also in “liquid gels”. I’m going through my mind right now and I’m drawing a blank regarding DXM in the form of a tablet. My point is, whether syrup or soft-gel, it’s likely going to throw some kind of extra bullshit at you. I’m not a chemist. It might be simple or it might stop you from completing the reaction. Just do your research, this is all available on Google
