I am very interested in starting to go to raves... I know all about the music and the drug use that occurs there but I here so many different things about them that raise questions...
Are raves really dying down greatly now..are they at least still tons of fun to go to?
Where do you even find out about raves in the USA?
How do most people get home from raves?(Do they drive while on e)

However, I'll answer some of your questions from where I sit.

1) They're pretty much dead here in the Midwest with the exception of a few one offs here and there.
2) I used to find about them from friends, going to other parties or the Events forum here on BL.
3) We always had a designated driver.
4) N/A
5) N/A - We didn't have any that had age limits
6) You can't trust dealers anywhere. :)

Not sure about Raves in USA but i can tell you a lil about Australian rave, i assume they're quite similar.

1) in Aus there is actually an increase in the amount of raves happening eg. 2010 was the first year Defqon 1 happened and then this year Magic City came to Aus. Both are now annual events and both are huge.
2) In Aus you can found out about raves through the obvious methods eg friends, word of mouth. What you can also do is find the website of the company that hosts the raves eg. powerhouseproductions.com or qdance.com. (Those sites don't apply to the US) i think.
3) Alot drive, actually i would say the majority do but parking can be hard to find. Public transport eg trains are also very common. Very often after raves you will see a huge crowd of drug fucked people outside the closest train station (i am usually 1 of them).

They still happen here in the UK but nothing like the scale of the 90s. Nearly always word of mouth, turn up some remote location, and hey presto - a night of magic.

Dunno what it's like in the rest of the world, but illegal raves were BIG news in the UK until the law was changed to stop them. Of course raves were powered by Extasy, they went hand in hand.

But we still have festivals. They're fully legal of course, but great music, great people, and they're all summer long. Supposed to be clean and secure etc, but they never are, but the law still applies. Hard to remember that when you're off it in the middle of a crowd in a field watching some banging band live with your eardrums blasted by the super-pa systems :D :D

^Technically it still is, although its not a classic rave.

Rave.

Only the good raves are underground nowdays, all the ones that are publicized, i.e. massives, just arent great any more. Sure there's often great artists playing, but the event itself is poorly put together and it draws the worst crowds around.

The fact that drug use is what half these kids are doing at a music event sickens me. In fact, it's what's ruining the scene.

How do I find out about 'em? The good ones you really have to be in the know about. Im talking about the tribe parties out in the mountains and deserts. If you dont know anyone on the inside, good luck even finding out where the next one is going to be!
As for massives, they're publicized like no other. Its disgusting.

How do I get home? A good rave doesnt make you go home at a certain hour, but when I go to those events, I make sure there's either a sober driver, or we all pitch in for a cab.

Lets keep the questions about scoring and commiting other illegal activities out of this thread please, other wise im going to have to shut this down and start handing out infractions.
