So Beta-Alinine feels like Phenibut...

I took Phenibut a couple of months back to get through a very bad period of anxiety and stress. It worked very well, depite my trebitatious mindset leading up to the first dose. Anyway, there's no point in discussing the effects of Phenibut, that's for another thread. I came here to discuss the amino acid, Beta-Alinine. Beta-Alinine is commonly used in pre-workout drinks to give one a boost in the gym, and it does just that. But to my suprise, it also acts as a fairly strong anxiolytic and provides a mood lift, too. Essentialy, it feels to me like a less potent version of Phenibut. Could it be acting on the same receptors?

Are you trying straight beta alanine or an actual pre workout drink?
I've had pre workout drinks with beta alanine in them that could be interpreted as the same feeling as phenibut but I wouldn't contribute the feeling solely to the beta alanine. And to be honest I don't see why the two would result in the same psychological or physiological effects

Beta alanine feels like absolutely nothing to me, except occasionally when I get that paresthesia effect. (I don't mind it since it's very occasional.)

At any rate, phenibut is a Gaba(B) receptor agonist. Beta alanine *does* increase GABA in the brain / celluar system / etc. and is apparently a GABA uptake inhibitor of some sort

I didn't think beta alanine was a GABA agonist though. (I do see a few posts in forums saying beta-alanine is also a GABA(A) and GABA(C) agonist, but can't find hard references, and wonder if there is some misinformation there).

I don't know if beta alanine has the potential to interact / potentiate other GABAergic substances.

No, i'm taking the beta-alinine as part of a pre-workout supplement called 'NO-EXPLODE'. It contains 1g per 20g serving; not sure if that's a hight does or whatever, but it's enough to feel this percieved effect. It's not exactly the 'same' feeling, it just reminds me of the calming sort of feeling i got from Phen.
