Opioids Snipped, fresh poppy pods - what to do?

So for the typical opium poppy, I understand you should wait until a certain point in its lifespan before you make incisions. Will the lifespan stop once they are pinched from the plant? If I find some growing in the park, should I snip the pods, or take the whole plant? I've used the search, but couldn't find information for pods that have been removed from the plants.

Also, is it best to try to make small incisions and let the "milk" harden after a few hours, then collect it and mix it into hot water? Or should I dry out the pods in the oven or air-dry them, and make pod tea from them?

Do i need to bother drying them out, or are they good fresh?

What is the best, safest way to use these plants? Thank you.

Idk about the whitish seed gunk that you're talking about but I don't think you can collect opium latex once you've taken it out of the ground. It has to be alive and well to send the opium to repair the damaged area. At very least trying after you've removed them will be very inefficient and you'd lose a lot.

Incising and collecting opium and then refining it is a lot of work. I hear your best bet is to toss some fresh pods in the blender and consume these/make tea but remove the seeds first. These will be more potent than dried pods though so start low. if you've never had pod tea, its nasty and no where near as pleasant as smoking O but imo that still doesn't make it worth the effort... But I'm biased, I used pod tea (dry pods) for 14 months.

Sorry I couldn't answer all your questions but try checking out poppies.org, they specialize in this information.

Okay, i'll take it from the top & hypothesize with you on what one could do with fresh as opposed to dried poppys ; )

If making incisions, a novice farmer may slice pods horizontally to produce a white latex. This is normally collected a day later in a dried state. However it takes many, many poppys worth for one to collect a significant amount. This is then further dried & can be further reduced by boiling to make a purer smoking extract. It would take many pods to make this worth it though.

Once i had great success making opium tea back when i was 20. We had at least 50+ papaver somniferum growing fresh. I ingested X amount via the 'eat a bowel of Tea' method as follows.

* several fresh pods are chopped to rid them of the stems & crowns. These are then blended in an electric blender with 3/4 of a mug of water.

* the green plant matter gloop is added to a saucepan on a low heat until steam begins to rise. This is to help the plant give more of its alkaloids.

* the mixture is then strained through a fine sieve into a bowel, pressing the gloop against the sieve with a spoon to further squeeze the liquid.

* this will produce an unpleasant soup-like green liquid that can be mixed with lemon or grapefruit juice.

* This is then ready for ingestion. It may be difficult but if ones heart is strong & pure it will seem like part of an ancient ceremony.

In summary the above fresh pod tea, using an amount of poppys suited to you, can produce a long lasting pain-killing effect similar to oral codeine & morphine, only with a common stimulant edge that can occur with some types of poppy. Nausea can occur. In this event an antihistamine is best. And yes, it is long lasting!

*edit* No! Eating raw is horrid!

^^^ Make tea! ^^^

It is really easy to brew up, doesn't taste very good, but you can get a *very* heady buzz from fresh pods.

Hmm... I'm just worried that I'd be losing product with tea. it might be best to eat the raw grounds, which are probably a lot easier to get down that dried grounds.

do you guys recommend removing the white baby poppy seeds flesh inside the pod? Or could valuable alkaloids be within the mesh?

No, these have been soaked in the sap itself. People make tea out of loose seeds they're that good. Leave the seeds in. It seems like this might be your first time with opium. I reccomend the above tea method.

still, it's not real opium until you harvest the latex, right?

I made tea with four of them. I haven't felt very much from it.

But I gathered like 20 pods today, and each one i scraped with a pair of scissors and licked, and got an energetic buzz from it. kind of different. i'm interested in not scraping them, and seeing if i can harvest the latex from the snipped pods.

Harvesting latex from snipped pods is no way to do it, you want live poppy plants with the poppy pods/bulbs still attached. You want to make small incisions in the pod and let it ooze out over night ,then collect this opium gum and then cook it with hot water and toss in some slaked lime or something like that to precipitate the opium will rise to the top of your boiling pot of latex/gum/whatever you wish to call it,get a metal spaghetti collander/drains water from the noodles, and dip out the opium that is floating on top, then let it dry in the sun preferable for as long as possible, much of the opium even after cooked still has a high water content so the longer it dries the better quality it is...

what to do?

I have picked twenty poppies and wanted to make a tea myself, but I'm afraid that since I've picked them the pods will not mature to size and be good to dry, so I would like to try this fresh pod tea, but I've always heard about taking the seeds out, is that possible with fresh pods and how to do that? and also my pods are very small, are they even worth doing anything with? or should I just leave them in their vase and see if the mature any? I have made incisions in one and a milky latex did come out, do I drain the latex before making the tea, or just pop the pods off and follow the fresh pod recipe?

just grind them up and boil/steep in a tea and/or wash the grinds down.

don't worry about what you may be losing or if they're big enough...so long as you have the correct species of poppy (papaver somniferum) you shouldn't need to much to get a nice effect if you have no opiate tolerance. small pods work just fine, you may just need more of them than you would large pods (by that i mean more individual pods, not more weight).

i don't think the pods will 'mature' any more if they've been picked - they are unlikely to get any stronger, so i don't see any point in waiting. they might drop their petals and begin to look more like poppy pods, but if they've been picked prematurely they won't develop any more.

IMO bleeding the pods is a total waste of time, especially if they're not grown on your property or somewhere private. unless you have a lot of opium latex, the effects of smoking opium have always been disappointing in my experience.

tea, on the other hand, is wonderful.
if the pods are bleeding, that's ok - just make tea with them, and save all the fucking around of trying to bleed them.
the latex is likely to be quite watery and weak if you've had them sitting in water.

my preferred way to consume the tea is to put a handful of pods in a blender with some grapefruit juice, blend them up and then drink the juice and wash down the grinds with a glass of water. you don't waste a thing, and it doesn't involve any heating or waiting around.

as for the seeds, they're not much use. commercially available poppy seeds are believed to be coated in a thin layer of opium due to the mechanical processing of the poppies to remove the seeds. i've not known anyone to have good results from using the seed from dried or fresh pods. you'd need a lot of them to make a difference.

you can either crack the pods open and shake the seeds out or leave them in the brew - it makes little difference.
personally i take them out because it makes it easier and more pleasant to down the poppy juice and grinds without seeds.
