i like a bit of ska,but it seems to be pretty thin on the ground,
can anyone point me in the direction of some good ska bands

cheers

not entirely ska persay
but Choking Victim is pretty ska influenced

Streetlight Manifesto is the most ska-y band I can take

I also like the skinhead bands like Symarip

Operation Ivy
The specials
I like save Ferris but that may not be to everyones taste...during the 90s revival.

Check out stomp records a label based out of Montreal. Home of the planet smashers. I like the band Subb off that label very ska punk like sublime. French dudes trying to sing English, fun stuff.

I was always partial to the Slackers (good NYC ska/jazz) and a the Pietasters (a lil more funky ska)

At my advanced age I never know what people mean when they say 'ska' nowadays.
I liked the original music from Jamaica (1963-1968 roughly), the likes of Prince Buster, the Skatalites, Jimmy Cliff, Jackie Edwards etc.
But I was young enough for the Specials / Madness / Two-tone revival in 1979 - all much better live than on record unfortunately.
And now, a generation later, my daughter is into 'ska-metal' which includes bands like Skindred.

The Specials are my favorite. Catch 22 was better than Streetlight Manifesto IMO. Mustard Plug is good too but bands like that are pretty punk.
