Been lurking here for years, just got round to joining up!

OK, I have been looking for info about this for ages. Its partly a question and partly a shoutout for your opinions. Let me begin...

I had a heroin and DHC habit for about 8 years until I got clean in Oct 2010. I managed to stay relatively clean (no habit) until very recently when my occasional use ramped up a bit. During the occasional use period, I would still find heroin would make me feel a bit rough for a day after using, but more like a comedown as opposed to withdrawal. As my use increased, obviously that rough day lasted a bit longer but I found that I could take methadone the day after use and avoid the nasties, and then use H again after a week or so (to be safe).

Unsurprisingly, my H use got out of control eventually and I recently accepted that I was habited up again. Not severely, but about 0.3-0.5g daily for a short period. So, I stocked up on some methadone, and on Thursday 11th April 10pm I had my last hit. I lasted until Saturday 14th 2pm before taking 100ml meth, in the hope that it would see me through the w/ds and I would emerge rlatively unscathed (the 'single high dose meth detox').

I sit here at 6pm 16th April feeling just fine and dandy - 92hrs since my last hit aand 76 hrs since the meth. What Id like to know is if anyone else has tried high single meth dose H detox? Are there stil withdrawals to come? According to meth half life, I still likely have about 20mg meth in my blood so I cant be sure if that is why I still feel fine...

IF you know your stuff, I would be interested to hear your opinion/experience. Please though, if you have no experience with methadone, I would rather avoid speculative responses - I dont mean to seem rude, but it is better if we keep things informative. :-P

OK, back for an update.

It is now a week since I last had any heroin and just over 5 days since I took the 100ml methadone. I feel great. Using a half life for meth of 30hrs, and a BA of 80%, that means I likely have a meth BP level of around 10mg so I am not whipping out the party poppers just yet. But if I dont notice some kind of rattle by tomorrow evening, then I reckon I got it nailed. Even if I do get some residual wds, I cant imagine they will be that intense.

I find it hard to believe that noone else has tried this method, it seems so obvious. Back in the day, I used to do a lot of rapid tapers, lasting maybe 4 or 5 days but always used to find myself feeling a bit rank a few days after the end of the taper. I never thought to have a whacking great dose and let the long half life see me through.

I think it is akin to how, before you have an H habit, you can take loads of gear over two days and be fine, but if you were to spread the same amount out over a week you would end up feeling sick afterwards. Anyway, seeing as I havent ever seen anyone post anything like this before, I figure it would be useful to have the information out there so people can find it.

Really interested to hear what other dope fiends think of this...

How many days in a row were you using? One dose of methadone isn't enough to completely come off of the withdraws even if you were mildly addicted. How much was the 100ml? That sounds like a lot! Methadone is usually 5mg per ml. That cant possibly be the case with you. 500mg of meth would most likely kill you its powerful. 15mg would be enough to stop your withdraws for a while. Maybe you took so much that its still in your blood? How high did you get from it?

Here in the uk, methadone is 1mg/ml, so it was 100mg total. My heroin wds usually last about 5-7 days, and its been longer than that now.

As I say, there is probably about 10mg left in my system, maybe a smidge more. Even if there are some wds once the meth is 100% gone, I cant imagine theyd be bad...

You'd be surprised. The change from even a few milligrams of methadone to zero can be quite pronounced. A lot of addicts who check into an inpatient detox clinic and are given a standard methadone protocol leave on the last day after being given a final 5mg dose and feel okay.. then it wears off and they are in bad shape. Plus detoxing from methadone lasts much much longer. So a lot of people relapse.

I don't want to dissuade you in any way, just be prepared for the possibility.

Maybe you should pick up some kratom just in case you start withdrawing too bad. The withdraws off kratom aren't too bad if you need more than a couple doses. Don't take methadone too much because the withdraws can last a month or more in serious cases.

In the beginning of my addiction to opiates i used the same procedure. I toke like 40-80 mg methadone to come off a heroin bender (around a week of usage). It worked surprisingly well for like a year maybe some time longer. But then the times of abstinence from opiates got shorter and shorter in between usage, because of strong psychological cravings. One day i just acceped that my body needed them to function all day every day. I can see this working out good depending on the time of usage, maybe up to a month might be possible. My last dabble into opiates was for 3 month and a short methadone taper still left me with unpleasent but bearable withdrawl symptoms.

Actually this CAN work for SOME people when you have a mild habit and have never been on methadone maintenance. The methadone kind of acts in effect like a taper in that it has a very long half-life and slowly leaves your system gradually, unlike heroin where withdrawals come on very rapidly and strongly. So it does have the potential to diminish the severity of heroin withdrawal if used once in the right dose. It is very difficult to predict how you feel once all the methadone has left your system though.
