Okay so this may seem like a dumb question but surprisingly I've had trouble getting a clear answer. Just how bad are benzos for you on a dose by dose basis? I'm asking this because, rarely, I take a the lowest possible dose of alprazolam to help with restlessness when trying to fall asleep. My question is not how long before I become addicted or anything like that. I derive zero pleasure from this drug, especially at this dosage, aside from the "pleasure" of being able to get to sleep on the odd occasion when I can't naturally. (I'm talking about once every two weeks or so in frequency.) I don't know if I've ever even felt a discernible high, I just am able to fall asleep. I am quite aware of addiction potential and the horror of withdrawal so don't worry about informing me although I appreciate the sentiment.

Obviously all these benzos wouldn't be on the market and be prescribed so readily if there was significant risk in infrequent, low dosage. But still, all drugs carry some risk so what negative actions does a single benzo dose, specifically alprazolam, have on the body and mind? I know it must be a slight effect if any but this is somewhat theoretical question so please delve into your troughs of drug knowledge to describe what the negative effects these drugs have on the body and mind after a single low dose. Thanks so much.

honestly, if you take benzos as prescribed or at a therapeutic dose, they are not that bad for your body, especially if you dont take them for too long.

as you said, benzos would not be allowed to be prescribed by DEA law if they were that bad for your body.

in terms of effects on the mind, benzos essentially slow down the portion of your brain that causes anxiety and restlessness and panic attacks in those who have them.

in terms of the body, i do not believe that they act on the central nervous system or the autonomous nervous system unless you take higher than therpeutic doses
but to answer both your questions on the whole, a single, therapeutic dose of alprazolam is really neither bad for your body or mind.

in my experience the only reason they are bad for you is because if you take too much they make you do stupid things, do things and say things you wouldnt normally, and just overall lose your inhibitions greatly.

like you said since you are taking a single, not even multiple therapeutic doses, a single therapeutic dose in my opinion is not in any way bad for your body or mind.

anyone feel free to correct me if you believe i am wrong, as i do not know much about human physiology, liver toxicity, or whatever (im an engineer, not a doctor)

thats just my opinion tho

^Yeah that about sums it up.

But just to be sure, if you are a drug addict, I don't think a doctor can prescribe you benzos. Because sometimes people take extra pills and all that. And they can be habit forming,

Benzos are nontoxic when used "as directed".

(Not every positive action of a drug must incur some negative toll)
