I just recently obtained my eztest and was eager to use it. I tested this brownish crystal which I assumed was pretty good stuff (my guy is pretty reliable). Sure enough the marquis went straight to purple/black, next step was Simon's regent. Usually I need a good two squirts of buffer before I obtain results but this stuff went straight to blue ( almost instantly). Pretty sure this is a good thing but just wanted to see what everybody thinks here. Thanks!

Your Simons reaction possibly indicates the substance had a high pH or an alkali was also present. Did the crystal react vigorously with Marquis?

It's been so long now since I did these experiments, I'd have to check my notes. But if any of these substances were present as the freebase, the pH should be high enough to facilitate the Simons reaction. Remember, most drugs are salts (acidic) and the buffer is only necessary to raise the pH so the reaction can proceed.

Yes actually. I have never tested anything else that has reacted so adversely to the marquis reagent. There was a noticeable amount of smoke/vapor that appeared almost instantaneously. I used no more sample than any other test I have done :s
