So I was waiting for the bus and I saw what appeared to be a seedling poking out of the grass along the sidewalk. I thought no way, and took a closer look. I am 90% sure that what is poking out of the grass is a cannabis seedling. It has the characteristic four pointy leaves that poke out like a star. Two are significantly longer than the middle ones. It has a shiny almost waxy complexion and is an almost florescent green compared to the dark green of the surrounding grass. It is very likely that someone could have picked out the seeds of some swag while they were waiting for the bus and tossed them in the grass as they rolled a J. I have seen spent roaches on the ground at this bus stop before too.

So if someone wanted to re-locate this specimen to a more secure environment, how would they go about doing it? (If it is possible.)

I've found a seedling in the forest inside a little pot with fertilizer, took care of that guy and he grew nice and stinky

easy, just take a small shovel and dig about 6 inchest under it and remove. put in the ground (or pot) somewhere else and water it in.

got a picture? other plants have palmate leaves. the leaf margins should be serrated as well.

since its a wild collection, you should let it seed, and replant many, many more!

Wait, a minute, this sounds like you found someone's plant that they stuck outside and nabbed it.

(finger wag)

Stay away from plants that seem like they were planted by a grower. I don't know how things are where you are, but around here outdoor growers like to plant toe jammers and other traps along with their plants. Besides, it isn't nice to take someone's plant who might need it for medicine. In general, any plant that seems relatively discretely located should be left alone.

If a seedling just poking up somewhere fairly obvious, such as along the sidewalk near the bus stop, it should be transplanted immediately before it is killed, either on purpose or when the lawn is mowed. Return to the area at night with a backpack. Inside the backpack you should have a small pot (a plastic cup will work if you poke holes in the bottom) with some good potting soil in it, and a small hand shovel. Carfully dig under the seedling, taking as much of the surrounding soil as you feel is necessary. A small seeding has a root base about the same size as the above ground stem.

There is plenty of information available online on how to grow cannabis. For a single plant, I recommend growing it in your closet under compact flourecents.

got a picture?
Naw, I only had my cellphone and I am not sure how to upload pics via cellhpone, plus I did not want to draw attention to my discovery.

I have seen seedlings before, uh in movies ;). It was not hand shaped yet, it was in the four pointed star shaped stage where two leaves are longer than the ones in the middle. It was serrated too, at least from what I could tell.

Also could you not clip the stem and dip it in a rooting formula? I think I am going to use a spade though and remove the roots.

eh i kinda agree witht he OP, ive ahd 5 plants ready for harvest stolen before so i kno it feels. Let it grow where it is and see if people attend to it or if its left lone. and btw dude there so easy to germinte jsut germinte onw and dont risk ruining soemones hard work.

it's on the edge of a sidewalk.

my bet is somebody was walking the neighborhood smoking and tossed a seed to the side.

i doubt this seedling was anybody's hard work.

Growers make it a habit to grow near the bus-stops of four-way intersections? It is going to be killed the next time the city mows the grass or when it starts forming hand shaped leaves.

it's probably just an ordinary, everyday weed, but i'd transplant it and see what happens if you can get it out of the ground without drawing too much attention.

Probably a bad idea. The plant wont have much energy to produce roots if you cut it at seedling stage. Transplanting shouldn't be too troublesome.

^ It is going to be difficult to dig out since it is right between the side walk and the grass, if you know what I mean. It is worth trying though, I will try to convice my fired to drive me over there since I obviously do not have a car.(otherwise why ride the bus?)

Honestly, I have never seen a plant that has a leaf bunch of 4 unless one fell off. First of all, the first leaf ( i believe called parietal leafs) to come out of a weed plant are not characteristic of a weed plant. They are a pair of leaves and oval in shape, it looks nothing like weed. Usually when the first real node appears their fans have 3 leaves. Similarly on the second node they usually have 5 leaves, and the third may have 7. It is common for mature plants to have somewhere between 5 and 9 leaves per fan. The fans have reflective symmetry, meaning there is one leaf and the "top" and the ones that come out from the "sides" all have a counterpart on the other side of the fan. This being the case there is always an odd number of them 3,5,7, or 9 (unless one was pulled off or a single one died, which usually the whole fan will die).

Also you might be looking at something like Virginia creeper.

These plants could be mistaken for marijuana i suppose, but if you notice the leaves are spread much farther apart and this grows in a vine.

heres an image i just snagged off the internet somewhere. compare and contrast and DONT SMOKE THAT SHIT UNLESS YOU ARE 100% SURE WHAT IT IS!

If you search for "cannabis seedling" on a google image search you will see all but one have the characteristics that I have described. Two large pointy leaves, with two smaller leaves pointing out below. Kinda looks like the the North, East West, South, diagram on maps.

I will take a picture of it today.

You should transplant it...Its pretty easy man, not to complicated...

I doubt someone is looking after that plant and if its just a seedling i wouldn't worry bout hurtings someones feelings and stealing it...

I just found one in my backyard cuz i always throw seeds in flower pots around my house and one sprouted. You can tell what it looks like if youve tried to grow before...It comes up with 2 dicot seed leaves which are round and then two of the first true leaves which are triangular shaped and serrated..then another set of single leaves come up or 3 leaved fans...so on up to 5 ,7 , or even 9 in a muture plant...although i have seen mature ones with only 5

i wouldn't even bother...you'd be better off starting your own seedling. at least you know what you'll get.

If youre so interested in growing, why not do it the right way and start off with seeds you know the strain of?

Not worth getting caught trying to pot a weed plant in public IMO. After all, it could just be ditch weed in which case its... well, pointless.

I would start from seeds but I guess I am lucky because I have only came across one bag seed, and it was broken so I could not germinate it. If I do get some bag seed I will start the old fashion way. There is no way that I will buy seeds online, way too risky and expensive.

I tried taking a picture of it but my camera was acting like a POS. I also did not want to draw attention to it. I did get a real good look at it and it is about 2" tall, has four pointy leaves making an x clover shape, the two top leaves are significantly larger and longer the two below. About 1" lower down the stem are two round, clover-like leaves.
