Alright so it's now the end of October and on the 22 on June I was in a motorcycle accident. During the accident I fractured 13 bones in my face, had a broken sinus, and 1 or 2 skull fractures, (I can't remember) and a brain hemorrhage, and was considered "in a coma" for 12 hours, (I was completely unresponsive. Now while I was in the hospital (for only 3 days, I hate the hospital, leaving was by my choice.) the nurse was giving me 2 Percocet 10-325's every 4 hours, even waking me up in the middle of the night to make sure I got the proper dosage. When I had left the hospital the doctor left me with 90 Percocet 10-325, now here's where it gets funny, while in the hospital all 3 days I was given 2, 10-325 percocets every 4 hours on the hour, but I unknowingly left the hospital being prescribed only 1, 10-325 Percocet, every 4 hours. Now the nurse taking care of me had given me the instructions, (continue to take your pain meds as I have given them to you, 2, 10-325's every 4 hours) so that is what I did. Well about 1.5 weeks later (11 days) I had no more pain meds because I listened to my nurses advice when the amount the Dr. actually prescribed me was supposed to last me 3 weeks (22.5 days) for only 1,10-325 Percocet every 4 hours. Needless to say when I called the doctor he thought that I was abusing my medication since I had ran out of it in half the time I was supposed to (plus the fact that I was only 20 years old at the time didn't help my cause). Then my Dr. Only gave me 60, 5-325 Percocet every 6 hours as apposed to the 1, 10-325 I had originally, but every 4 hours. Since then I have now ran out of all medication for pain and it's been about 3-4 months and my face is still in excruciating pain. I have been to the neurologist for a follow up on the hemorrhage, and spoke with her about my persistent pain, and inability to sleep at night because of it. She then referred me to a pain specialist to help manage my pain. The pain specialist prescribed me pain creams and neurotin, (which I didn't feel helped at all) I told the pain specialist that the medication I had immediately after the accident worked very well, (the Percocet 10-325) and she had informed me that we want to "fix the problem, instead of covering it up with the narcotic pain pills." I have an appointment with her again November the 12th, my question is what can/should I do to get her to prescribe the Percocet again? Thanks for all your time.

Hi Djgentry21! I'm sorry to hear about your accident!! Holy shit....that's a lot. Glad you are on the mend. I have a feeling that a mod is going to close this thread because we aren't allowed to give you instructions on how to get meds from a Dr....Maybe not, but I kinda am leaning towards probably.

My advice, from having chronic pain for a long time now is, if you are in this kind of pain, which I can relate to, and you don't feel that this Dr. is hearing you, find a different Dr. that you feel listens and hears you.

With chronic pain the solution seems to be- not getting you pain-free, but your pain to a level you can live with. It's a mind, body and medication combination. That miscommunication with your meds upon your AMA discharge- was messed up. The staff often seems to do those things. It's a lesson learned. Ask questions-always. Try not to leave any questions marks...read all information, things like that. You are young plus you never dealt with this before, how could you have known?

I wish you the best on recovering from the accident, and am glad you are ok.

^Great advice. Give the new medication a try and see if they help. If they don't, then at your next visit discuss this with the doctor. I have to close this as we can't advise you how to get meds prescribed.
