Sherlocks?

I'm looking at buying a sherlock and wanted to know what you guys think of em. I'm talking about a dry sherlock, not the bubbler type. Would it be worth it? or should I just get a spoon?

i really regret selling my fumed sherlock. it was a bitch to handle because the hook part of the stem would get way to hot to rest on your palm as it would naturally sit otherwise, and it was tough to stow. i rarely took it places because it looked like it'd break easy. but i still loved it. in the future i'm thinking of getting a custom fumed one out of pyrex so i don't have to worry about it! will post pics when i do :)
 
It would be cool to get a stand for your Sherlock so that you could rest the hot pipe in it, just waiting there all upper-crust-style, for your next inhale. I can almost picture one in my mind from some old Victorian daguerrotype or something.

My curiosity overcame me so I just searched and found a ton of them on a traditional pipe store site. A couple of examples:

Sorry to hijack, I just think it would be sweet to lean over and set your beautiful sherlock down to rest on an elegant old-school stand.
 
Well what I'm looking for is one with marbles that act as legs to rest on when its not in use, and its not ever leaving my house (i dont plant on smoking outside anymore) so I dont rly care how thick it is (depending on if I can afford it) I used to spend at least $50 on a marbly pipe, now my pipe budget is down to $10 at the moment....economy b fucked

I like the pipe holder idea. I can make one of those in less than an hour, wish I had the tools to make one from glass tho, if i get a sherlock with no legs I'll have the local glassblower make me a glass pipe stand for it to make it look all classy:)
 
^^^ not to mention the taste. everything seems to taste better from glass. However, I have two pipes and one mini bong and none of them are glass. Both pipes are metal and my bong is acrylic and I love them all. Gotta think about claing though, how would you do that with a sherlock?
 
^Thats what I'm talkin bout:) Glass is way better than wood, wood can taste pretty bad after a few sessions. Once I actually get my sherlock I'll post pics. I've only had one sherlock, and I'm hoping my second one isnt a piece of crap that ends up breaking
 
Anybody else got other info about sherlocks? I know thers a few types of sherlocks, like what the hell are those super long sherlocks called?

Damn that looks sexy as hell, would love to pack that big ass bowl and keep passing it around without it ever going out, just always lit. Would love to get a glass sherlock bubbler.
 
^I used to have a sherlock bubbler. I took it with me everywhere, then my dick of a brother "borrowed" it and got it taken by his "friend" (my bro was drunk and made out with his friend's older sister, friend got pissed and told him to never come to his house again, keeping my pipe and my copy of super troopers) Don't let pipes out of ur sight imo, especially heady ones. I'm glad my brother is estranged now, he can rot for all I care, lil wanker:)

Ya with this bowl we've discovered the mystery cherry. After you've hit a huge bowl out of this a few times the top part will be all burnt and shit but the cherry will still be lit underneath, hidden from view but still gettin huge hits.

Also Ason you can come hit it with me sometime if you want, im in brookline every wednesday if your ever around there.
 
So what does a decent sherlock cost? Would $20 get a nice pyrex one or would I need more cash for such a pipe?
 
^Ah, thats one thing I wanted to know. I've seen one before but people were calling it a churchwarden, and I was pretty sure they just made that shit up
 
I can't decide, they all look so trippy. Whatever I end up with I'm gonna hold onto it forever, cuz it'll be my first pipe I've bought since moving to the west coast:D
