First off, i want to apologize to the people in DC whom I offended with my rage comment. I was provoked, but should've been more mature. Anyways, I'm sorry. Bluelight's always helped me.

To my topic/question: Saw a new shrink about my medications for bipolar disorder and PTSD. I told him I was trying to stop self medicating with opiates and this is LITERALLY what happened:
SHRINK: you need suboxone.
ME: no thank you, it's not for me.
S: No, you really do.
The next part, he opens a drawer in his desk, pulls out a bottle of SUBOXONE and hands me five. He said, "They're on the house."

I'm the first to admit I'm naive, but was this kind of illegal? Should I get a new shrink? I like him otherwise. Thanks so much.

He gave you Suboxone without a script under the table? Sounds illegal to me. Also, I'm not into opiates, but how are five suboxone going to help you beat your opiate habit? Are you even physically dependent?

I'm about ~120 mg a day oxycodone dependent. I know right, five? Then he said "Tell me how you like them and we'll see about getting you on them." I was like umm okay.
I just don't know if I should pass on this guy, but keep him cuz he manages my BPD very well. Sorry if my answer is convoluted; I'm high. :)

I could see giving you a packaged sample but handing you loose pills sounds sketchy to me. Did you agree to try the subs? I wouldn't stop seeing him just because of this incident though. It's more important for you to get clean.

It is shady but if he's a good shrink stick with him. I go to a shrink and really like him. Following the rules doesn't always give the best result(doesn't mean start breaking laws) if he's helping you then continue. If you want the subs than take them and see if their for you.

Sounds like a great doctor, sign me up haha.

But in the name of legality and HR, that's definitely not okay. I mean if he helps you, that's great. Completely up to you though.

Excellent feedback, guys. I think I'm gonna lean towards dropping him as some of you suggested. He also puts his hand on the small of my back when "escorting" me out of his office. I do not like that, at all.

I'm sure there's other doctors who can get me to a therapeutic blood level of Tegretol for my BPD and won't throw me loose pills or touch me.

I'm going to kick with clonidine, lope and clonazepam. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't me, being overly sensitive or paranoid to this doctor.

I think his wording was inappropriate but my shrink used to give me samples first off prior to getting the script filled as it took time to do, and they have a lot of samples around from the reps. Subs might be a little different though. Also, if you don't feel right in your gut, find someone else. Touching a patient is inappropriate even if he didn't mean harm. Best of luck! :)

Sounds to me like he did something a bit shady, but to help what sounds like a giant habit. I'd give him more of a chance. A lot of treatment centers/doctors wait until the withdrawal is very noticeable before giving such medications.

I still say you drop him but if you decide not to then I'd suggest being upfront about the fact that it makes you uncomfortable when he puts his hands on you as he escort you out. For me the touching would be a deal breaker and I'd probably flip shit about it off top.
But that's just me - I fucking hate being touched by people I don't know.

I have to agree with the above post, being touched in an inappropiate manner is always something you should report somewhere, don't know know if you are female or male but anyhow... have a talk about the incident(s) with your psych I'd recommend at first, then try to report it somewhere if you feel the psych is still acting weird / shady to you. :)

I would think giving you 5 free subs was just an act of being friendly without having to do a lot of paperwork at first when something wouldn't help, regard it as a free sample from a drug dealer since that what they mostly are haha... ;)

on a more serious matter, going on subooxone with a 120 mg a day Oxycodone habit would be a good option for treatment IMHO, I'm currently at 140 mg of Oxycodone and I know how bad the withdrawals are after like 7 years of use, try to get a prescription first before dropping the psych so you can carry it over to a new one if you know what I am talking about. :)
