A while back I got a bottle full of Sertraline for anxiety etc. I ended up never taking any and the bottle has been laying around. Im just wondering is there any potential for recreational use with Sertraline (Zoloft). If so whats the best way about doing so.

kinda what i figured considering i heard you have to take it for like two weeks to get the normal affects.

The only people who actually "enjoy" it are those trying to completely numb their whole spectrum of emotions: those who would rather feel no emotion at all than feeling the lows of life, at the risk of throwing away the highs of life as well.

To me, being an emotionless robot is not human at all, and while some people might benefit greatly from not feeling like themselves or not feeling any pain (at the cost of not feeling joy), to me, life is meaningless if I can't feel happy, or feel sad when something bothers or hurts me. If you are going to take it medicinally for anxiety (I recommend taking 300-600mg Chelated Magnesium, 100-200mg L-Theanine, 0.25-1mg Melatonin, and 10-25mg hydroxyzine first and seeing if that helps you), then try super-low doses and see how you feel over time. It has been noted that taking SSRI's like Lexapro at super-low doses like 2.5-5mg actually help a lot with anxiety and allows you to function normally, with your emotions, orgasms, and human-identity left intact and unsuppressed.

SSRI's are definitely emotionally blunting, if that's your thing, but you'll have to take a steady dose once a day (usually in the morning) and this effect will take about 4 weeks to be noticeable. before that all you get are the side-effects which include such fun things as akathisia, diarrhea, stomach cramps, frigidity (this never goes away), nausea, insomnia... and what else? i don't remember. pop a few and find out!

do you have a source for this? i'm on 20mg lexapro and would rather preserve all of those if possible

^ No peer-reviewed source for that statement, it was just something I read in the "Drug Culture" section, I'll see if I can dig it up.

I have actual personal experience with this and it seems to be rather true..

Lexapro is some potent stuff; 5mg goes a long way; I used to take 40mgs and realized 5mg kept me feeling not like a zombie.. anything 10mg+ was too strong left me drowsy and zombie;

If you take enoough it will void you of all human emotions

But everyones different

Sertraline has little recreational value so to speak in terms of acute high, though I've found it to have incredibly rapid and profound anxiolytic effects. Then again, I've found Sertraline to actually increase the dynamic range on my moods, with none of the depersonalisation others report. That said, Sertraline is more an anxiolytic drug than an anti-depressant in my case (though I'm possibly an idiosyncrasy w.r.t. the general population).

^yeah, while it is true that Zoloft/Sertraline has absolutely no recreational potential (though perhaps some people with a really weird taste might fine the 'side effects' enjoyable :\), and to abuse it could be really dangerous (Seretonin syndrome), its important to point out that SSRI antidepressants don't make everyone feel emotionally void. I had very debilitating O.C.D when I was ten years old, and after being diagnosed, I was treated with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Zoloft. The combination was incredibly benificial. Unfortunately Zoloft caused me to gain a lot of weight (its a common side effect) which then made me depressed and eventually led to my discontinuation of the treatment, and subsequently my relationship with recreational drugs (this was my experience. I not saying taking antidepressants will lead to drug abuse.. However, I would think twice before seeking out pharmaceutical treatment for my future child).

However, for your purpose, I would have to say Zoloft offers no value.

I had an extreme but occasional urge to drive my car into a wall while taking Zoloft.
It did give me energy but dimmed my wit so the things I did with the energy were puzzling even to me.
I think there is something with not getting proper sleep while taking it that messed me up too.
It is said to have withdrawal issues like all antidepressants seems once on them the only place to go
is anther AD this has been my experience at least. Thing is they don't tell you about the withdrawal
so you end up a bit of a nutter and sick when withdrawal hits which can be 6wks to a couple a months
from when you last took the drug. Last one I took for years was Effexor horrid withdrawal quit cold
turkey after I reached tolerance and was sick as hell for a long time... Nobody seemed to know
what was wrong with me so I quit all drugs and held on. The trick to getting off these meds may be
to taper extremely slowly 5-10% of what you dose is... drop that much.. with a good wait of 4-6 wks
between drops many people are doing this now that the word is out. Since I knew nothing of tolerance
or withdrawal at the time I did not do this. Taper may not work the same for people who have reached
tolerance.
Best thing is to avoid them... there is some talk of early use causing later drug addictions. I could say more...
and usually do to other people dismay. :) peace to you people. B

You got any real-world experience of this?? I take sertraline for depression and anxiety and find that my range of emotions has increased whilst doing so. Reading this kind of bullshit that some seem to dish out so readily gets on my tits as it's very easy to be dissuaded from trying anti depressants when in a depressed and susceptible frame of mind.

Please just try and be a bit more balanced next time ey?

I agree with ^^. Ive been taking sert for years and years and havent noticed any diminished emotions. The weeping sorrows, soaring extacies, calm and quiet contemnent all fully intact.

Cannae shoot my load to save my life though (sorry ladies, i mean sorry for the language, not that i can not currently display the spectacular FCSs of my teens - although i hugely demise the enfeeblement of those too) though not sure if this is down to the sert, the PV, the ethylenidate (sure that one actually helps me blast off)the popy tea, the ah7921, the etizolam, the phenazepam, the mam2201, the am1220, am2233, pregabalin, 6apd, 5 apd, phenergan, dyphenadramine, cimetidine, ur144, mxe, or sts135. :\
