So I've been having major problems sleeping, so a friend of mine gave me a seroquel and said it would knock me right out. It did. She didn't tell give any instruction so I popped the pill before bed. I woke up around 3am to pee as I usually do and was stumbling all over the place. I slept for about 15 hours until I forced myself to wake up. I had very slurred speech and a lot of trouble typing a one sentence text message. It's now 3pm, 5 hours after I woke up, and still feel strange, depressed, and groggy. I know I'm an idiot for taking it but I needed sleep so badly. I was wondering how long these symptoms will last. It was a white oblong pill that said xr 400 on it.

Thanks

That's a high-dose extended release tablet, and the stuff has a rather long halflife as well.

I'd expect you to still feel weird tomorrow, but not the day after that.

Seroquel is not a good choice for dealing with run of the mill insomnia, because it lasts too long and you feel like a zombie the next day. Plus it's overkill for the purpose, and being an antipsychotic, comes with a whole raft of other issues.

Try the OTC sleep aids (melatonin and doxylamine) as well as non-medical techniques (google it - there are tons of sites listing standard advice, which helps many people. Steer clear of anything that sounds like quackery, as usual), and failing that, consider seeing a medical professional, as there are a whole raft of prescription drugs that are more suited as sleep aids.

My current sleep solution is melatonin before bed, plus I have my room totally blacked out so waking up once it gets light out doesn't keep me from getting back to sleep, and all power lights have duct-tape over them (or have been surgically removed). Diphenhydramine or doxylamine added for days when I am under particular stress to get to sleep.

400mg is a lot of Seroquel (quetiapine). Somewhere around four to eight times as much as you need to knock yourself out and sleep for a long time. It's quite useful for destroying stimulant comedowns.

You took way too much for somebody who doesn't need to be on powerful antipsychotics like quetiapine. The after-effects should be gone tomorrow, however.

That's a massive dose of quetiapine for someone who is not tolerant, that's close to a dose prescribed for schizophrenia and bipolar, not insomnia.

I think you'll feel back to normal in 24-48 hours. For the reasons you explained, I don't take Seroquel, let alone the XR version, let alone 400mg! :) Once, 25mg had me KO'd for 24 hours, and another time I took 100mg after a week of partying hard and was knocked out for 48 hours and woke up with like a hundred missed calls and text messages.

Not fun stuff.

Can the extended release be braked? Like crushing them..?

I have 300xr's and popped like 1/4 and im so sleepy atm..
Dont wanna be a zombie no mo

yeah about 100mg is all you realy need to put you to sleep, it realy has no recreational value i remember once i ate three of those 400xr pill and realy all it did was make realy hard to walk.

EK!! Do not use Seroquel get some Benadryl or Unisom a.k.a. brand names for Diphenhydramine it basically does same thing as Seroquel minus literally eating holes in your frontal lobe of the brain.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I'm relieved to know I'll feel back to normal soon.
Off topic- it made me have the craziest dreams. Some were so vivid I started talking outloud to the person in my dream.
I'll probably never take this stuff again.

Yeah, I use for sleep and have for a while and still only need 300mg. For somebody with low tolerance, even 50mg should be fine. As mentioned it lasts long, I would take about about 9pm if i wanted to sleep by 11. Taking it this early means you should be fine at a reasonable time the next morning. Not that you might take again, but FYI the morning drowsiness stops after a week or 2 of regular use (or i guess you get used to it)
