Seriously considering getting an Adderall/AMP precscription

Hi all. Long time lurker first time poster. I will try to make this short and sweet because I just typed out a huge paragraph and as I posted the thread, bluelight told me they were doing maintence and the thread got lost :X.

I'm an avid drug user, as are all of my friends. One of my friends over does it, I would def. say he is an addict. Nothing seriously like Heroin but he will do almost any other psychoactive substance available him in order to not feel sober.

Long story short, I'm a college student, away at school, and having just started the semester. I have used amps in the past and have the past couple of days. I find that in comparison to other drugs, they make me feel 'normal' if anything, rather than high.

I am currently under belief that I have/had ADD/ADHD for a while and it has got undiagnosed. I can remember all throughout my late elementary school, middle, and high school days that I was always just as socially smart as the 'smart' kids, but wasn't able to keep up academically. I would always lose focus in class very easily, have my mind be racing during tests and other things, and often zone out after trying to make myself pay attention. (say from about ages 10-18 I observed this.)

I didn't really know how to self-diagnose myself, and my parents were never the ones to try to observe me having any psychological issues. My mother always told me she had slight complications at my birth, and my parents are just glad I came out alive with 10 fingers and 10 toes, so they were/never will be the people to recommend or make me take meds.

Now being 20 years old in college, I find myself with countless aspirations and goals. I am aware of my ability to complete these goals but often lose track very easily due to often experiencing high(although not severe) anxiety, over-thinking/over-evaluation of everything, and getting lost in my own mind sometimes. I will literally force myself to pay attention in class, or stay focused on doing a task I want to complete, and within 5 minutes will be back to square one because my mind went somewhere else. Its as if I have no control over it.

I seriously believe adderall can and will improve my life by leaps and bounds, and I have already experienced proof of this. Just because I have taken plenty drugs in the past to have a good time (cocaine, alcohol, cannabis, MDMA, LSD, Shrooms, thats it basically), doesn't mean I want Amps to get high because like I said, I feel normal on Amps, not even high, and know how to cope with withdrawal and tolerance when it comes to drug usage.

I am away at college and am unsure if I can see a school psychiatrist or doctor to be able to get prescribed, but first I want to take a test to see if in fact I may have/suffered from ADD/ADHD most of my youthful life. Any advice on how I could go about doing this? (asking those who have been in similar situations, or anyone in general really.) Does it sound like it to you guys I may have some of these Attenion Defecit symptions?

ADD/ADHD are really a complex and hard to diagnose range of symptoms. Some people, myself included, would go so far as to say it's an imaginary disease.

I have no doubt people suffer from some of these symptoms, but there are an endless list of causes for things like jitteriness, inattentiveness, restless legs, difficulty completing tasks etc.

As far as whether you can get this stuff perscribed? Yes, yes you can. Most GP doctors don't have the time or energy to go into complex and thorough detailed reviews into your life and background to determine the best pharmaceutical answer to your symptoms. Unless your GP has some reason to believe you're a fiend trying to megadose the script or flip it on craigslist, they will usually play ball and perscribe it with little complaint.

Remember, the American pharmaceutical industry is replete with all the same "hard drugs" that we hear about on TV news and shows like "The Wire." Doctors spend all day every day handing out amphetamines, heroine-equivalents, and opiates that would put any street drugs to shame.

How do I know this? My friend got an adderall perscription recently, and barely had to start describing symptoms before his doctor was writing the script. (This is a reputable clinic and a good doctor)

Be careful with this stuff though. Start LOW and SLOW. You'll hear that stuff around here like a mantra. Don't go chasing some tweaky adderall-high because the withdrawal will be a nightmare, and some science says that amphetamines are neuro and cardiotoxic in doses above standard perscription levels.

This is kind of a borderline thread and may get closed but if you do go on amps (its not really that hard) then don't take them everyday. Don't underestimate the dependency with adderall. Pretty soon you could be finding yourself needing them to do everything. After a few years, there is a good chance they won't be as effective if you are increasing your dose and taking them all the time. Just keep your dose low and use them sparingly, if you have a hard time doing that (considering your drug history) you may want to toss them in the trash. They can be functional but they really only work for so long if you abuse them and they can also be counter-productive at times too. They can help for a while, but they can also lead to problems. Be smart with them if you decide to pursue it.

I have also been diagnosed with ADD and I am not sure if its a real diagnosis. Lots of people are spacey and can't concentrate on everything our modern lives throw at us. Amphetamines are useful in this sense. Just because you feel more normal on amps, doesn't mean you have a disorder.

I think this is a slippery slope. We could *all* use a pick me up to help concentration, etc. at times. But getting on the Adderall train, as many will tell you, can lead to more problems than you had to begin with. Think you're unmotivated now? Try getting any gumption up after you've crashed out on stims.

I think most people, at one time in their life or another, could score as having ADHD or ADD on the test. You need to ask yourself if it is seriously impacting your life, and you can't function without medication, or if you would just like a drug to make things a little easier. Many of us have "used" drugs to help us out with life along the way, but like I said, it's a slippery slope and your problems will be compounded with a speed habit.

Psychoactive stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin are pretty safe as far as drugs go, as far as I can tell. Abuse of the medication among people who are prescribed it (and do not have a prior history of drug abuse) is very low. Most people don't up their dosage or abuse the drugs, and there are less risks associated with a sustained regiment of the drug (unlike other substances like benzodiazepines, for example) And, if they help you in your life, I don't think there's any reason not to take them. I do some people for whom these substances are genuinely helpful; whether there's actually something "wrong" with them, that I don't know, but I do believe that there are indications for which these drugs might be useful. Using them as a panacea for your problems is not helpful but I think that's an obvious point.

The fact that you say that you're an "avid drug user" does kind of raise some red flags, though. It makes me think that an Adderall prescription would get snorted up your nose rather than taken for therapeutic value.
