Couldn't find anything in the search engine. Anyway was wondering exactly (In medical terms) this is. ie had MAOI or SSRI anti-depressant and then dropped a pill? Not urgent just curious.

The reason SSRI's reduce the effects of MDMA is because they have a greater affinity for the reuptake transporter than MDMA does. This basically means the SSRI, which got there first, is able to hang on in the reuptake transporter even though MDMA wants to get in too. MDMA can't get in, and therefore can't work properly. This is explained in the dancesafe slideshow.
A MAOI on the other hand doesn't stop MDMA from doing it's job. It does it's job as normal, releasing lots of serotonin and dopamine. Normally, MAO breaks down these neurotransmitters. But if you are on a MAOI, the neurotransmitters can't get broken down. See this page at the slideshow. This excess of serotonin can lead to serotonin syndrome, and there have been a number of cases of this described. Here's one: A Case of MAO Inhibitor / MDMA Interaction: Agony After Ecstasy
That's a pretty simplistic explanation - if you want a more detailed one, someone else will have to provide it!
As for "learn more about brain chemistry before you start ranting like that",here's a good resource. Neuroscience for kids
It might be for kids, but I use it all the time.![]()
