Seizure risk with oxycodone

In my head
I have some oxycodone, and though I've taken it a few times I've never actually been high on it. I plan on taking around 80 mg, maybe 100. I have a low to moderate opiate tolerance. The reason why I'm hesitant is a few months ago I took a large dose of tramadol and I fainted from what I understand was a seizure. Then a few minutes ago I saw oxycodone grouped together with tramadol as they are both stimulating opioids, and I decided to look up the risks of having a seizure on Google, but I can't really find anything.

My question is: am I safe to take approximately 80 mg of oxycodone? I have the 10mg oxynorm instant release capsules.

There should be minimal seizure risk with oxycodone. Tramadol itself is notorious for causing them (I think due to its SNRI effects), but there are no such problems with oxy.

Have you used oxy before, though? 80mg is a huge dose to be doing.

Thank you for clearing that up. Yes, I have eating both OxyContin's and OxyNorm's before. I have never exceeded 40 mgs, or maybe 60 I forget, but I'm already on Subutex 2mg (or used to be, I'm switching to oxycodone) and I've also been on methadone etc... I'm switching to oxycodone because of the much shorter half life as I think this will be a big advantage when I kick the drug alltogether.

Just be careful with the dosage, start low and work your way up. Jumping straight up to 80mg, if you've only done 40mg max before, is a bad idea.

I've heard oxy is hardest of the opioids to kick around here from a few people. The half-life issue does help though-shorter half-life=shorter withdrawals, right?

Tramadol and oxycodone are very different. Oxycodone doesn't typically produce seizures, nor does it have much of a seizure risk (when used on its own... of course). Tramadol is an SNRI + Opioid...

Tramadol is used similarly to codeine, to treat moderate to moderately severe pain.[5] Tramadol is somewhat pharmacologically similar to levorphanol (albeit with much lower μ-agonism), as both opioids are also NMDA-antagonists which also have SNRI activity (other such opioids to do the same are dextropropoxyphene (Darvon) & M1-like molecule tapentadol (Nucynta, a new synthetic atypical opioid made to mimic the agonistic properties of tramadol's metabolite, M1(O-Desmethyltramadol). Tramadol is also molecularly similar to venlafaxine (Effexor) and has similar SNRI effects, with antinociceptive effects also observed. It has been suggested that tramadol could be effective for alleviating symptoms of depression, anxiety, and phobias[6] because of its action on the noradrenergic and serotonergic systems, such as its "atypical" opioid activity.[7] However, health professionals have not endorsed its use for these disorders,[8][9] claiming it may be used as a unique treatment (only when other treatments failed), and must be used under the control of a psychiatrist.[10][11]

Just be smart with the substance. I have no idea what your tolerance is for opiates - what is it? What is your history with other opiates (not tramadol... as it's pretty much in a class of its own, don't take me literally please)? 100 mg is a lot if you don't have much tolerance. Even 80 mg is a lot. How much tram did you take? How much tramadol are you COMFORTABLE taking?

Tramadol, even a large amount, inducing a seizure doesn't sound right. Unless you have a history of epilepsy, I'd argue that what you had wasn't a seizure. Regardless, if you blacked out/lost consciousnesses, that's pretty serious, and I'd recommend avoiding those high of doses.

I don't know about that man. I've read reports about people seizing from a dose of 400mg. Granted that's the maximum prescribing limit for daily use (which I'm at), so I guess that could be expected lol.

Oxy isnt known for causing seizures. Tramadol causes seizures often in high doses. 80mgs of oxy is alot for someone who doesnt know what theyre doing, so i hope you do, be careful. 20mgs will get you sufficiently mashed if you are someone who hasnt used many opiates.

Glen, tramadol WILL cause seizures if you take enough, granted it can take alot, but it will happen. My mate had a seizure from 1.4gs of tram (he didn't read up beforehand).

Holy shit, that's very stupid to start on such a high dose.
20mg oxycodone for the first time, after that you can try 40mg if you feel your comfortable.
I find oxycodone to be very different to other opioids.

You guys are absolutely right, that much tremadol will cause some kind of seizure. The OP only specified the dosages for the Oxy and placed the concern onto the Tramedol. I should have limited my comment to: that doesn't sound like a seizure, but rather a fainting spell and you should consult a neurologist.
Which I guess is out of context because I was making the assumption reasonable levels of tram were introduced.

My mistake; I'm new at this. And while I have no personal experience, one of my mates took their entire 5 day supply in one sitting adjust slept for 27 hours. He did the same thing aftercrying and having the prescription refilled, same story: slept forever. No seizure.
I don't know what his dosage was, but it was alot of tablets, like alot.
(But again, I acknowledge I made an assumption but still suggest consulting a professional regarding spells.)
