More of a pharmacological/practical question, but I read travel forums, and whenever colombia comes up, it is always advised to watch of for being drugged with scopalamine.
It apparently makes people extremely suggestible, and makes it easy to get people to withdraw money from ATMs, give over money, etc.
My understanding is that scopalamine is an anticholinergic. I thought diphenhydramine was too, along with all the other otc antihistamine medications that are first generation antihistamines.
My question is, is there something unique about scopalamine that makes people more suggestible, or is can anticholinergic do that as an effect, but plants with scopalamine are every where there?
