I was talking with a friend today about our weekend adventures and just general drug stuff, and had a sudden bout of paranoia that maybe I should just wait to see him to discuss things. Anyone else get this?

Talk away! They are NOT tapping you phone, it's silly to think they are... you could always talk in "code".. not because it will protect you, but because it's damn funny to listen to.. "y0, can you get me some ROLLER skates? yeah, I need about, um, 7 of them"..

Me and my crew's faves are ballon up my ass = smack and some shampoo = dank. We stole these from a Mr. Show episode and they always make us laugh. The skit also reminds me of whenever I go through customs.
Do you have anything to declare?
Yeah, Don't go to England.

my tweeker friends in atl. are sick like that. of course after being up for a week you'll start doing things a little different. like not talking in your car because it's bugged. i've also seen many telephones thrown across the room because of people on the other side listening.

my firends and I also have codenames after school subjects. weed is physics, I dont know why anymore, e is ethics, speed is pe, acid is chemistry and the like.

Quite a few people around here seem to believe that the new law gives them permission to tap anyone's phone at all times...they refuse to talk on the phone about any illegal activity.
Kinda silly, dontcha think? A law that would make phone conversations anyone's business? That's kind of, um, unconstitutional - dontcha think?

The bigger issue is probably talking on a portable phone and your neighbor listening to the conversation with a scanner. If you are even in the situation that your phone might be tapped, I think you have bigger isssues to deal with at that point.

simply put, your phone is not tapped. i had a friend who was under surveillence, had a PI on his ass, and eventually got busted in a sting operation, yet they never tapped his phone. so how likely is it that they would tap yours. ironically, that friend of mine use to make us talk in various codes, and it didn't help him a damn bit.

dont think you are so safe, my friend got locked up because a customer of his had his cellfone tapped, he called my friend for some coke and low and behold the cops raid them, the guy with the cellfone got there after the cops and kept driving, he called another person up for coke and then they both got busted, so becareful!

If they are at the point of tapping your phone, you are already fucked and they are just collecting a little more evidence to make their case against you nice and watertight. Why? Because they need significant evidence against you in order to get the phonetap in the first place...

you know what's funny I have this friend who thinks he's all slick and shit when he talks over the phone and he's like "you got any of the fifth letter of the alphabet?"

I agree with all the above...
if they're anywhere near getting a tap, youre fucked already! contrary to popular thought, its not just like the VICE officer rolls up to the judge and is like, yeah I wanna bust this small-time kids who thinks he's hard by slinging a few hundred pills...
they gotta have a fair bit of evidence before they get a tap...and if theyve got that much evidence, theyll just bust you anyways, without the tap.
i wouldnt worry as much what you talk ABOUT, but more who you talk TO...
i had a very good friend get **** 'd out and was busted with 20pills on him... he'll be gone for a while.

They can't just go an tap your phone.. They have to let you know that your phone is tapped before hand. And if they don't then the evidence is not werth shit in court.

Computer technology is light years ahead of what they'd have us believe, they have computers now which scan every phone conversation. These complex machines pick up certain keywords, tones of voice, call patterns etc.
They then flag & record suspicious calls for further investigation.

I'm not offering an opinion either way but didn't anyone see Enemy Of The State? That movie creeped the shit out of me!

Plauge Bearer,
I believe the government only uses those computers (the echelon system) on calls going from the United States to somewhere outside of the country. So the government's not allowed to use all these super computers on domestic phone calls because that would flagrantly violate the 4th ammendment. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I remember from reading about this stuff a few months ago.

ok, a couple points here...
Diesel, stop spreading potentially dangerous misinformation. You are dead wrong if you think they have to notify you BEFORE they tap your phone. That's complete nonsense and blatantly incorrent. And not notifying you does not mean the evidence gets thrown out.
FBDinNJ, I believe they do use the echelon for technospying on telecommunications within the US. What you have to keep in mind is that this would be used not by the FBI or CIA but rather the NSA. And remember, the NSA is above the constitution. They can do anything and everything in the name of national security and are not required to abide by any US constitution or laws.
Lastly, I think this whole discussion would be better suited for the Legal Q&A forum.
