First off, preparing an ornamental San Pedro cactus for it's Mescaline is Illegal, therefore wrong and sinful...
Anyhow, I had a vision I'd like to share with you...
I had this wacky dream-like vision that I prepared -
* 1 (thin,top cutting) 15 inch San Pedro (2 1/2 - 3 inches Wide)
* 1 (dehydrated/crappy looking,top cutting) 10 inch Peruvian Torch (3 inches Wide)
* 1 (nice and fat, mid section/cutting) 18 inch long San Pedro (4 inches wide)
They were despined,(then cut in 2-3 inch slices) deskinned (removing the waxy outer skin is a pain) then the outer 1/3 inch of dark green skin + surrounding light green skin was removed and dryed in a ($39.00) Food Dehydrator set at 95 - 105 F
(I've read that's your suppose to dry the Cactus chips in a dark draw for a week or so, I tried this once and it took forever to dry and a couple kinds of mold quickly grew on the moist cactus -
a red bacteria lookin mold and a white fuzz...to make things worse - it was summer at the time and a fly must have gotten to the plate, cuz there were at least two maggots on the cactus chips...I know...gross...Initially I wondered if they were some sort of parasitic worm that lived in the cactus itself, but I researched it and read that Flys lay their eggs on rotting fruits,etc)
You avoid these problems with a Food Dehydrator, which uses low heat and a fan to dry the product. The moving air prevents mold, while
No sun + low heat = minimal Mescaline degradation.
It also drys the cactus chips extremely fast (less than a day).
(Outer 1/3 inch Green skin weight)--->
---> The yeilds were as followed :
15 Inch Long (2 1/2 - 3 inch Wide) San Pedro -
23.5 grams
10 Inch Long (3 inch Wide) Peruvian Torch -
17.0 grams
18 Inch Long (4 inch Wide) San Pedro -
49.7 grams
The green skin chips were then grinded real well in a small electric Coffee bean grinder ($15.00) and stuffed in Gel Caps...(get the 000 caps, the largest I know of)
I tried 17 grams of the (15inch) San Pedro and found it too powerful, but not quite enough, next time I'll take around 25-35 grams (which I imagine would be a nice strong dose)
Keep in mind that Trichocereus species vary in potency, but I imagine if 300mg - 500mg is considered a good/strong Mescaline Dose, this was around 200mg (atleast)
(I would have taken a larger amount, but I got paranoid that it could be a super potent cactus and that I would take way too much)
I took the 17 grams in 2 seperate doses an hour apart (17 pills, waited an hour, then took another 18 pills. NOTE - these were 00 gelcaps, if I had the larger 000 gelcaps at the time it would have been easier)
Taking Mescaline in two seperate doses an hour apart, prevents shocking your system, as would taking it all at once...
I only had VERY minor stomach discomfort about 20 minutes after each dose (only lasted about 10 minutes) No gagging, puking, shitting, etc.
I've heard people say that dried cactus in gelcaps takes a very long time to come on (as oppose to drinking a cactus shake, which comes on sooner)...not really, I could feel initial effects within an hour and by two - three hours it was in good effect. Perhaps these people didn't grind the cactus fine enough, I grinded it untill it was a powder. It's harder to put in gelcaps when its so fine, but it seems to work better.
You'll know when it really starts from the jaw clenching...
It lasts a long time - ~12 hours (of course, it seems like 36 hours

)
The only negative things for me was my back pain and that I got a headache towards the end of the trip.
(I do get headaches rather easily and somewhat frequently, so I don't know if that had anything to do with the Mescaline itself)
I had no paranoia or anxiety or fear what so ever...it's real powerfull stuff.
I would suggest obtaining a 24inch or even 36 inch piece of cactus. This way, you could try a smaller amount initially, to get a gauge on the potency and then set yourself up for a great trip.
I know some people worry that these cacti will be targeted by the cognitive terrorists, but I'm not so sure...one method of use (juice method,eating method) doesn't take long to prepare, but tastes absolutely horrible...while this method (dried,powdered) takes a whole hell of ALOT of work to prepare...Most people probably won't go though the trouble...it takes many hours to prepare...Trichocereus sp. will never be too popular for these reasons...
I will probably write a Trip Report in the future, I've typed too much as it is...
What a dream it was...Hope this helps some...
