I suffer from anxiety which is induced most likely by my Lyme disease. I am also 14 days off benzos and have found myself to be very very low and can't seem to handle stressful or anxiety provoking situations. Its gotten to the point I even avoid the news on tv. Benzo withdrawal has made it worse but I have been fearful of everything even before it. Do you think Sam-e will be a good fit for my anxiety, ocd, depression and phobias. I have read some stories about sam-e causing withdrawals. Is this true?

Lol, i can definitely relate to avoiding the news, I would often do this for years, muting when coming on the radio etc, always expecting news of some major political disaster or local war or even normal stories which could spark off paranoid thoughts.

I took Sam-e for a while and i think it worked. It should in theory help with your situation and might be the ideal thing to test for a week or two before considering other options like an SSRI, as it could in theory provide similar benefits with much reduced side effects and dependency issues.

I had all your issues at very bad levels as well at one point and the only thing that really helped me was getting on an SSRI, paxil for a few years. But all my issues where caused by MDMA abuse and OD's so the area of damage was obvious, Serotonin. If you can do some research to determine why anxiety might be caused by Lyme's and through what mechanism, that would be very helpful in determining the best treatment.

But yeah Sam-e seemed to show a lot of positive data and results and seem to be quite effective and powerful, so its worth trying. Its not the cheapest supplement though

Self medicating bottles of vodka everyday was making things worse and even the strongest benzoz didn't really provide much relief, was great for anxiety and relaxing but didnt help with paranoid thoughts and sleep, so it wasn't worth taking daily.

I'm serious!!!! Even the news of a local car crash can make me all paranoid. I don't know if you are aware of a show called Big brother, but the scenes where they are competing in challenges makes my body tense up ughhh..it's pathetic.

If you don't mind me asking, if Sam-e worked why did you not stay on it? Was it cost? How much did you take and what brand? I have found a bottle by Now at 100mg 60 pills for $30.

Yes reality shows often cause my anxiety to cause strong empathy towards their situation, like feeling really embarrassed and uncomfortable for somebody or some situation on the show. And you cant help it, the emotion feels real, like its your own.

Im not sure if it worked and took it in a situation where that wasnt really measurable as I was already on other things and feeling ok, so when i took it it was really as a supporting add on to existing treatment so i really didnt pay much attention to analyzing its effects. So you would need to test it for yourself, i cant really say how well it worked for me but the data looks good, worth testing.

SAM-e

Well I'm almost a month out from my two month use of ativan/klonopin and one week taper. First week off was pure hell and it gradually got better but OMG it was so slow it almost felt like it would never get better. Whatever anxieties or OCDs I had were magnified by 10000 times. I used a lot of herbs such as relora, ashwagandha, rhodiola, bacopa, magnesium and inositiol to help. I would have to say relora got me over my worst with the adrenaline rushes but I found I had to take it 3 times a day. I discovered contradicting info about it helping or hindering healing but all know is I used it for the worst and then stopped so I could let my body heal on its own.

Now I'm not fully healed and left with residual symptoms such as small focus issues(feeling cross eyed sometimes or unable to focus far away), buzzing in ears when stressed, floaters in left eye, a little bit of restless limbs, fears and phobias such as agoraphobia and monophobioa(but I've had these way before benzos) and Dysthymia(which i've had all my life).

Considering I've had all these anxieties and low moods all my life, I was put on SSRIs 13 years ago and have finally cut ties 3 months ago after a two year taper. Would it be a mistake to give Sam-e a try right now? I heard it can be stimulating but there are accounts of it taking away all nervous energy depending on body chemistry. I bought some 100mg Sam-e pills by NOW brand and will be cutting them in half to start off. I can't wait to get out of this dark depression cloud. The only thing that ever really worked was Paxil(subsequently switched to Celexa) but it came with so many side effects it was ridiculous. I don't want to travel down this pharma road again. Thanx for reading!!!

Forgot to add..anyone know if Bacopa is okay to mix with Sam-e. Or at least an hour between each of them?

Blight..do you know if its okay to mix bacopa with Sam-e or within an hour of taking each of them?

Sorry about that!

I was just looking through some blood work from last year..I realized my vitamin B12 was WAY higher than the range for the blood test. Range is somewhere between 0-400 and my B12 was at 700. I've been taking a tiny bit of B12 with the Sam-e.. Now i'm worried it will do more harm than good. Should I supplement with B6 instead or a low whole foods B vitamin.

Ok it's official. Sam-e has made my symptoms worse and it's only been 3 days!! My tinnitus is worse with a heavy brain and I have odd cortisol surges that I never had before(though it did take away a bit of depression) what is the antidote to this??? Does it go away after I stop??
