Salvia Divinorum - My First Ever Psychedelic - "The Walls are Dancing with Me"

A few years ago, I was living in Spain, where Salvia can be purchased in any smoke shop (which also sell marijuana seeds, as in Spain, it is legal to grow Cannabis on your property if you are a citizen. Furthermore, Spain protects civil liberties, and you can do any drug you want on your property)...

I've never tried psychedelics prior to this experience (not counting an experience several years earlier with MDMA which was laced with something that produced hallucinations, but that's another story), although I smoked hash daily (marijuana was harder to come by there). My husband had numerous previous experiences with mushrooms and some other psychedelic substances, including Salvia (previously unsuccessful). Having purchased some extract of Salvia (20x maybe?) after looking up the dose and technique online, we proceeded to smoke it. Set and setting: tiny studio, artificial lighting, (generally cramped and depressing); mood: anxious (as expected).

Within 1 minute I felt as it something was pulling on the back of my scalp. Worried, I checked with him whether this was normal, and he confirmed that it was. Other than tingling sensations, elevation in heart rate, anxiety, and these pulling sensations, I did not experience further effects and proceeded to re-dose.

This time, the pulling sensation in the back of my scalp was intensely more pronounced. All of the sudden, I felt as if something had taken control of me, and whisked me up, off the couch onto my feet. The walls, seemed to be moving in on me, but not in a threatening way, but as if they were encircling me, inviting me to dance with them. Spinning around the room, my arms in the air, I felt free and wonderful. "The walls are dancing with me", I recall saying out loud several times, amazed at what I was experiencing. What I was seeing was beautiful, and that was strange to me because at that point I was pretty fed up with living in that room. You'd think I'd be more claustraphobic (especially, given that the room was sooo small, 140 sq. feet), but all of the sudden, I felt happy in this place. The walls were inviting me to co-exist peacefully with them, and for that minute, I felt as if I'd lost all my cares and inhibitions, problems, and frustrations. Within a minute or two, the sensation went away rather abruptly. I was left with a stoned-like feeling, disappointed at how short the euphoric part of the experience was. I continued to have some mild visuals for about 10-15 minutes.

At this point, we smoked some Cannabis, and I went into the bathroom to take a shower and ponder the trip. The Salvia was an experience that took me outside of a reality I knew and made me very curious to try other psychedelics, like mushrooms (an experience which occurred about 1.5 years later, which I hope to describe here soon). Now that I'm experienced with other (mainly classic) psychedelics, I wouldn't say Salvia is on top of my list. Mainly, what I didn't like is that there was no afterglow, and also I like the feeling of rebirth and renewal that comes with tripping, and I didn't get that at all from the Salvia.
