Despite the controversial ideas about it's toxicity, I was curious about the psychoactive properties of this common plant. I began by smoking small amounts of dried flower, and after 2-3 small hits, it becomes clear that this is an active plant. I've since moved from simple dry flower to very easy to make, and stunningly powerful, green & sparkly extract active at <20mg and almost overwhelming at doses above 50mg smoked. Oral preparations seem essentially inactive compared to smoked, even at doses of nearly 1g of the extract and I've had no better luck with a tea from fresh leaves and flowers. Seems that like it's cousin S. Divinorum, 1st pass metabolism inactivates the vast majority of the active compounds. Quidding fresh leaves creates effects similar to that of the extract, but just orders or potency less potent. The effects are similar to some of the 1st generation spice blends, but with cottonmouth far more difficult to vanquish than that caused by cannibis. I'd love to know the precise chemical composition of the extract, but I can only hypothesise based on the particular phytochemicals present in the plant and make quasi-educated guesses based on the extraction Tek.
Anyone else have any positive experiences (or any experiences period) with Russian Sage??
