DJ Frankie Knuckles, a.k.a. the "Godfather of House," has died from complications with diabetes, confirmed longtime Chicago promoter and Knuckles' associate, Robert Williams. He was 59.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Knuckles spun influential dance music at various night clubs and helped to popularize the "House" music genre throughout the US and abroad.

He spun primarily in Chicago, and would play dance music at many landmark clubs including the Music Box and the Warehouse.

Knuckles later opened up his own club, The Power Plant, in the early 1980s.

In addition to being a trendsetting DJ, Knuckles was producer on several influential dance tracks of the post-disco era including James Power's "Your Love."

Frankie Knuckles...

Man what a loss. He was one of, if not the first DJ's to make dancefloor-friendly edits to play at The Warehouse (hence the genre HOUSE). Back in his day he had to manually cut tape, loop it, record it, etc. There was very little in the name of hardware back then, and software? Fuggedaboudit. He shaped electronic music as we know it. He really made that much of an impact. He was the DJ's DJ's DJ. That legendary, and his body of work, and what it influenced changed my life forever.

^ same. it seems i always had "your love" on my playlist and would randomly land on it from time to time. still remember the first time i heard it in a mix and at first chance searched for it then discovered the man. RIP

still sounds fresh as ever. timeless classic.

Mid-nineties remix by Frankie Knuckles, starts slow and mellow, and builds up toward the sound of the Quincy Jones classic, faithful to the original, but in keeping with a house beat and style.
