Every time I go to a rave my ears always ring when I get home. The ringing lasts for upto a week, and its really annoying (especially when I'm getting to sleep). Lately, even after a week I can still hear ringing but only when its dead quiet.
I was wondering if anyone else has this problem? I try to stay away from the speakers but this doesnt help. I guess I'll have to start using ear plugs which I dont really want to do. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments ??

this is called tinnitis
it happens to a lot of people who attend loud music events like raves. i've had it myself. some people are more prone to it than others. if it seems to be happening to you a lot i'd defintly suggest getting some ear plugs, especially if you plan to be attending many raves.
i don't know anyone who works in the rave or music biz who doesnt own a set of plugs and uses them when ever they can. you can either get a good plastic set that can be used over and over again for between 20 and 30 bucks... or cheap disposables for almost nothing, they are also handed out free at some raves.. try not to ruse the disposables or use someone elses, you can get nasty ear infections....
also try to give your ears a break by going to quieter parts of a rave.
i urge people to take all this seriously coz i know far to many industry people who now have a high pitch ringing in their ears twenty four hours a day.... and will have for the rest of their life...

I've discovered that somehow, listening to a walkman, with the little earplug earphones reduce the amount of ringing in my ears.
You don't need to blast yourself away, just turn it up to about 7 or 8, and in a couple of days the ringing should subside slowly.
Hope it works for you as it works for me!!!

Had a woodwork teacher at my school who had this because of the loud machinery he was exposed to at an early age for excessive perdiods every day. It doesnt sound like a very nice thing to have happen to you. He often said it almost drove him insane and he wished he had protected his ears when he was younger. So if your getting this ringing noise Id listen to johnboy and do as much as you can to prevent it , because it certainly doesnt sound nice. (no pun intended)

get earplugs now!!! nowadays i dont go to any club or party w/out earplugs. it might seem really wuss but i still want to hear music when i'm 60.
they're not that bad.. it takes a bit of getting used to at first, but once they're in there, your mind adapts to the noise level and you can hear the music fine. i get scared if i take em out cuz it sounds so damned loud. i always just use disposables cuz i dont like the thought of re-inserting used ones hehe you can get em at chemists, cheaper than at a party (i get those lil yellow ones for like 69 cents as opposed to the fluro orange ones for $2 at parties)

Just a tip whenever you go out keep a couple of balls of cotton wool in your pocket, take a little bit of cotton wool scrunch it and put it in each ear, thats enough to protect your ears from and damage yet not really effect to sound at all, keep the ball in your pocket and replace as necessary throughout the nite.

Personally I'd recommend the earplugs rather than the cotton wool, because while feeling a little more uncomfortable, there is no danger of the earplug collapsing in size and going into your ear deep enough to be irretrievable. Plus, the cotton does not make an airtight seal with the ear canal, so stuffing your ear hard with cotton or tissue paper will at best reduce sound levels by 7dB. Effective earplugs should reduce sound levels by between 15-30dB. Probably most importantly, (if you're worried about your hearing, or have been having hearing difficulties which have led you to choose to wear earplugs) you should wear them ALL the time you're in a high sound pressure level environment. During 1 hour without earplugs fitted in a high sound level area, you're exposed to about 1,000 times more sound energy than if earplugs were worn. That's why the difference sounds scarily loud.

cAmmAc, i have found the exact same thing! I also listen to the music really low sometimes, and when i take out the head phones, its almost as if i can hear more clearly... I think of it as a way to exercise your ears, but i'm just a fool and probably really should get some ear plugs!
