Ive been noticing on BL that there are a lot more threads about heroin. It seems heroin is coming back into "style" ? Anybody else feel this way? In my neck of the woods there has been an explosion of heroin related crime recently. Does anybody else feel that H is back in a big way?

That boy ain't gone nowhere.......

But I do think more people are naturally turning to "second incomes" in the recession, when the economy gets bad and legit jobs can't be found, drug trade can flourish. At least here on the East Coast nothing changed. However cities like ATL seem to be comin up in terms of availability of tar, multiple kinds of powder, etc. Maybe someone from down there can comment.

Well I mean it never goes away, esp for people who enjoy it, but I find its becoming more and morea vailable in rural areas that at one time you would have to drive miles away

Ah... I see. Well in addition to the "economy" reason, perhaps it's satisfying markets that used to use / abuse OC and other opiate scripts and have turned to heroin due to price / availability? The next generation of addicts have been reared on pills, many people in places that otherwise wouldn't have had good access (as you said before) got in through OC and other scripts. Now that they are addicted the stigma of dope doesn't matter, even if it did in the first place. At least that is one phenomenon visible around here.

Probably a combination of both, in my city, which is on the East Coast, but historically isn't really that big of a consumer of heroin, but is a big consumer of pills...the prices have gone down and the availability of H has gone up....this going along with what seems like the complete disappearance of opiate prescription pills...

It's probably still a combination of many factors, back when I first started taking pills, they were cheap because only a few people knew you could actually use them recreationally. Yes, Richmond has always had a stable H user population, but with the popularity of pills exploding, economic downturn, and heavier monitoring programs on prescriptions (Virginia in particular is getting really tough with theirs, I went to my doctor's office a few weeks ago and they had a huge sign on the door saying THIS OFFICE PARTICIPATES IN THE VIRGINIA PRESCRIPTION DRUG MONITORING PROGRAM). Combine that with increased purity of powder H and lower prices and there you go.

Just more proof that people are going to get their drugs however they can...even if it means moving onto heroin.

Heroin completely exploded in my area a few years ago, immediately after I started using it and showing it to my friends ;) Everyone and their mother (literally) uses it now.

I think OD has always been pretty much dominated by heroin threads though. I don't think there are any more now than there were before.

I noticed in my area that once I switched from OC's to dope that it seemed like there was a lot more dope around, but it was probably just because I started noticing it more since I was doing it.

down here the dope is flowin pretty steady....kinda tricky to find a reliable connect down here but the dope is EVERYWHERE. pills have also been harder to get the past several months aside from a morphines and a few ocs comin through.

'Smack Is Back' is a long running news angle. It takes on new trends and forms now and again (Black Tar Heroin, Fentanyl-mix, P-Dope, Cheese, etc) and sometimes new regions of the globe dominate new areas of trade or take over once thoroughly dominated markets (NYC & Seattle/Portland used to be the mainstay of Golden Triangle white powder; the former now it is mainly Colombian brown powder with smaller bits of Golden Crescent base, Mexican brown powder & BTH, with Golden Triangle white powder bringing up the rear, the latter cities are almost entirely black tar heroin/BTH with smaller amounts of others trickling in, with very little Southeast Asian white).

Heroin has been back in 'style' in a sense since BTH and Colombian and to a lesser extent Mexican brown powder Heroin have made it into the same drug channels that opioid pill users tap into, and have made up markets that are highly accessible for white suburbanites.

Ecstasy, Ambien, Adderall, Mescaline extract, 2C-x and other RC's, Ketamine, etc may come and go as 'drugs of the minute' or of decade, but underneath Heroin is ever present as the drug of choice for lots of mind expanders trippers and internet RC guru's alike.

Junk has been around since it was called the Joy Plant and Morphine identified as GOM; it isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
