George Galloway (Respect) 18,341 (55.89%, +52.83%)

Imran Hussain (Labour) 8,201 (24.99%, -20.36%)

Jackie Whiteley (Conservative) 2,746 (8.37%, -22.78%)

Jeanette Sunderland (Liberal Democrat) 1,505 (4.59%, -7.08%)

Sonja McNally (UKIP) 1,085 (3.31%, +1.31%)

Dawud Islam (Green) 481 (1.47%, -0.85%)

Neil Craig (Democratic Nationalists) 344 (1.05%)

Howling Laud Hope (Monster Raving Loony Party) 111 (0.34%)

Massive punch in the face for all the mainstream parties. Not much time for Galloway's ego but most of his politics are sound and he sure knows how to win an election.

Note - he got more votes than all the other parties added together.

PS Leaving the cool smileys. They just add to it. :)

'Monster Raving Loony Party'

excellent :)

Goog on him though, don't know anything about him or what he is for but...

who or what are the UKIP and the Democratic Nationalists

Democratic Nationalists sound like a bunch of fascists (the old NF is now called the English Liberal Party). Yep, checked and I was right.

The Democratic Nationalist Party (DN) was founded by a group of British Patriots, Nationalists who were not very impressed by the range of Nationalist organisations that were available for them too join.

The founders of the Party included two former BNP activists in Bradford

UKIP are just a bunch of xenophobes/fascists. They've had plenty of exposure on BL.

Other notes. This was a heavily Muslim dominated constituency. Labour put up a strong Muslim candidate. And still got trounced by a non-Muslim.

the UKIP candidate is called McNally - she must be of an Irish background yet is running for a party who wants an english only country 8(

^

Can't find much of her background but she was a 'strong' UKIP candidate after defecting from the bloody Green Party (after some success).

All of which makes Galloway's victory all the more astounding. And let's not forget this is a man who dressed as a cat on celebrity Big Brother in order to suck up to (literally) Rula Lenska.

He got beat though on the issue of withdrawing troops from Afghanistan, something most Muslims see as a war on Muslims. Not particularly surprising is it? I put it down to a clever campaign by Mr Galloway, than a huge blow to the mainstream parties.

I take your point but the mosques still came out in favour of the Labour candidate and Galloway's message was obviously stronger. Galloway was a poor second favourite to win this. His absolutely majority over all other parties speaks volumes.

To be fair to UKIP, their xenophobia (and also that of the BNP) doesn't generally extend to the Irish. They know there's more native 'British' DNA in one square mile of Ireland than there is in the whole of Essex. They just don't mention it that often. ;)

Whether it was the anti-Iraq position which won the election for Respect or not, the fact remains that Galloway stood himself, rather than fielding a Muslim candidate in the cynical Lib Dem (and now, it would seem, Labour) fashion.

Your right, it is a pretty incredible feat. It's a shame that it has to be George Galloway. Any other socialist leaning politician I'd have been over the moon for, but I find it pretty damn hard to give Georgey boy a pat on the back!

Like I said, one of the biggest egos I've ever seen.

But boy can he orate.

Very interesting, thank you SHM! Agreed on Galloway haha but the personality isn't as important as the politics..

edit: at least it shouldn't be anyway :|

Yup, he's certainly in the right job. Some of the debates I've seen on youtube are well worth a watch. I wouldn't want to enter a debate with him!

I don't think he is a proper socialist though, just a self-obsessed contrarian. Cunts like him have the most pernicious effect on leftist causes.

Always good to see someone who blamed 7/7 on us and cosied up to dictators all over the world back in parliament... It's also nice to see how inline with mainstream views the community of Bradford is.

^ wondered how long it would be before you popped in MSB :D

No they don't, only when they dress up on Big Brother as a cat. Galloway has had more positive individual effects on (particularly Muslim and impoverished) lives than you've had hot dinners.

Only difference is the mud thrown by the Torygraph etc sticks. Any ultra-lefty gets the same treatment.

All politicians cosy up to dictators as you well know.

And 7/7 seems to be not quite straightforward as a few million people think. Don't sidetrack this debate.

Edit. Any who gives a shit about mainstream views. There are alternatives. Your view is obviously not mainstream with Bradford. Deal with it.
