Does Research chems are still legal in Japan? It seems like all shops in JP are being closed now, even realiable suppliers are closing their website?
anybody knows what is going on there?

Illegal in Japan: heroin, fentanil and analogs, meperidine and analogs, MDMA, MDA, MDE, STP, PMA2, DOM, DOB, PCP, PCE, TCP, DET, DMHP, PEPAP, BZP, TFMPP, THC, and others.

Gray area: Ketamine, Ephedrine.

Legal in Japan as of 02/14/2004: 5-Meo-DIPT, AMT, 2CI, 2CC, 2CD, 2CE, 2CT2, 2CT7, 2CT21, 4-Ace-DIPT, 4-HO-DIPT, 5-Meo-DIPT, 5-Meo-DMT, Methylone, 1.4BD, 4-Ace-DET, 4-Ho-DET, 5-Meo-MIPT, 4-Ace-MIPT, 3CP, DXM, IAP.

The drugs above are considered to be "unclassified" drugs and hence not illegal. However most people believe that these four will be scheduled before the year is over: 5-Meo-DIPT, AMT, 2CI, 2CT2. Next ones to go after these are likely to be: 5-Meo-AMT, 4-Ace-DIPT, 4-Ho-DIPT.

It is true that more than half of the shops have been closed down recently under pressure from the government which resulted from a number of high-profile teen overdoses.

Timmmmmy, 2CT2 is more popular in Japan. 2CT7 is considered as leaning closer towards the hard core and is not part of the mainstream headshop offering. So it has not attracted as much attention from the authorities as 2CT2. My guess for the reduced popularity of 2CT7 are the death reports from USA that came out before it had a chance to become wide spread in Japan.
