Just think about it:
*You go every weekend
*You have spiritual experiences (prayer vs. drugs- I prefer drugs!)
*Some people put all their faith in it and that's what they live for
*You participate in worship (God vs. the DJ)
*There's music (hmmm...again I prefer my pounding beats and mind-blowing good tunes)
*Both involve trying to get to heaven (we just happen to have found our ecstasy on earth)
*And finally...at both church and raves you meet people who claim to have met/seen God!!

This is not to offend anyone here who is religious, just some silly random thoughts for the day!!

This scares me man....on new years eve...which was my first time rolling, at about 5am i thought everybody's soul was crying and that people were marching/dancing to there death...and that satan was actually running the rave...and that was werid....

Raving is sure like going to church...and apart from all of the great similarities that SWeet-e mentioned my favourite thing about it is the focus on something of beauty..the music. The focussing on something that is undeniably beautiful makes it so energizing and special to me.
The techno music represents something pure to adore and appreciate. And in that it is also like the art of today...(a rave can be like an art gallery too). That focussing on beauty throughout all the ages was always inspiring, creative and energizing.
Also on the other side of the coin techno in its repetitive nature can be something like the ministers boring and repetitive sermon

Not exactly like the experience i last had at a church:
SOrta long story
After a bangin night out we decided to hit an after party for we were still buzzzing big styless. We got to the doormen of the after party and they had this electronic wand that detected something..( we guessed metal as we thought that was the potential)
a friend had a pill inside a plastic baggie inside the side of his sock..i had this too in my sock in the same place.
the doorman scans my friends body from top to bottom reaching his ankle(BEEP BEEP)
he scans his same leg again reaching his ankle again(BEEP BEEP)
My friend ran of course....me too cause i had the same deal as him...but my running was more like big exaggerated strides turning into a fast run.
So our paths went differently and i thought that he would run in the direction of home so i headed that way too....he didnt start off in my way and guys did chase him so of course i did not know if he got caught or not....thinking of him in jail...his life ruined and all those silly imaginings did tweak my heart. Oh Running fast while peaking and also the mild thrill of escape makes for some super rolling.
So im heading the way of his home when i stop at my UNI(UTS if ya know, how good is that trippy purple/blue carpet before the computer labs)to get warm and rest up...I was met by this table with shiny nice things on it..they were these little shiny creations with quotes from the bible..and of course i had to check these out. So i sat down and chatted with the people of this church and admired the shiny things quite alot.... little did they know i was high..but it sure was fun talking to them. So they sorta talked me into going to the sermon/performance coming up...how could i resist when they mention singing dancing and funny skits...
So they sing happy songs and dance around in a funny way....i gladly join and oh its so much fun( though i think i did dance quite differently to the people..just a little more energy
wink.gif
)...everyone seemed so happy and boy did they all look funny to me...
They sung about christ and all things happy and great about him and for us..all the happy things..I was real damn happy and rolling hard.
Then they sung sad songs about stuff like him dying on the cross and all that..they didn't dance....i caught the unhappy vibe too...was still e'ing hard though...its funny how quickly i did change tune..not like depressed sad but like feeling for christ sad.
then relief came with the funny skitz..which were even funnier than i could imagine...then the break came..i was outta there...didn't feel like a sermon actually...and of course..did my friend get away?..and what of my other friends that were already made it past the doorman?
no worries, it was a happy and funny ending
So you out there if ya wanna try something "fun to do while rolling"...(hey that sounds like a great survey topic
wink.gif
)
try CHURCH..even if you aint religious....i aint..and it still was nice fun.
raving/churches ON.....oh and does anyone know why that magic wand the doorman was using detected the pill...we thought that the capability was only for metal???? could there be metal in the pill..or a metal salt or something?

Isn't it wierd- but at my first rave I thought It was some kind of conspiracy/cult thing (I was tripping) and I got fully freaked out afterwards!!

I forget where I read it but I read somewhere that somebody once took a Monk from the West into a rave so that he could compare the rave culture to their own culture and he was able to draw many parallels between the two. I thought that was cool as hell. Did anybody else read this, have more to expand on it? That was a long time ago. My memory sucks, I need some SDRAM or something.

I agree with Vagrant-kinda scary!
I've tripped like that too, especially about Satan and Raves???
But I know this isn't a relgious argument. Raves & Churches both have a lot of followers and the followers are usually very loyal to what they believe in,so it makes some sense.

well not sure about church - but thats cause i was never actaully in one i'm jewish
smile.gif

I love raves - Iim new in the US - and besides getting to go to new places (states iv'e never been in) I get too meet lot's of new friends - so if thats anything like church - I support the argument ..
Hey can we hold a rave in a church (Limelite for exp.) ??? something to think about - which will cover me bing in a church

i think the elements that make a church good are: ritual, dissolution of individualism, ceremony, sacred space, sacrament, holy words, sacred architecture, and prayer.
The elements that make for a good rave are good music, good drugs, good people, lighting, sound, and a good space to hold it.
Take those two together, and you have the future of religion. Maybe we'll be able to bring Technics into the cathedrals and be able to reinspire religion. Membership is declining in churches around the country, while the rave population is exploding. They have what we want, we have the warm bodies and the spiritual energy, maybe if they let slip the whole drug and sex thing, there will be some convergence in the future. This is the future of religion.
I heard in Norway they have some 3-day rave in a stone mountain monestary. I don't know, i just see the potential for some awesome energies coming out of the right combo.
To me, warehouses are my cathedrals, and their architecture is inspiring, but it would be nice to have a world-class spot. Locally, i'd love to use Grace Cathedral, St. Dominic's, the Hyatt Regency lobby.

I remember reading a letter someone had posted online about a buddist monk going to a rave and taking e (he wasn't a young guy, either) and talking about what a wonderful experience it was. Personally my friends and I have always thought of it that way, "I go to church on sunday morning, at 1am on sunday morning, I took my communion and said my prayers before all those religious freaks were even awake!"
