hey all i recently just quite smoking for a little while, and i seem to be having some depression and some anxiety is this normal and how man of you out there have experienced this?

thank you !!!!

I actually feel quite shitty when I go a month or two straight smoking buds then going dry a day or two. After the 2-3 day you start feeling better.

Withdrawl effects for me are just:
Depression
Lack of appetite
Insomnia

I go through the exact same thing, but it goes away after a couple of day's except for the Insomnia, that takes me forever to get over.

If you were previously a long-term chronic smoker, then yes its very normal.

As others have said, it shouldn't last long..

Agreed 100%

When I quit cannabis that's exactly what I went through along with more energy than usual (in a good way) you'll want to work out to release some endorphins and get the "runners high" so that you feel good naturally, it really does work :)

The appetite thing and insomnia are annoying as hell but will subside in 3 days TOPS so don't worry about it. Cannabis is more psychologically addictive than physical really.

I have never gotten wd from weed. i think it is like imahustler said phychological because weed isnt really physically addicting like other drugs are.

you must not be shooting up your weed right then.

Also it turns out dealing with psychological dependence after stopping is a long word for WDs

No, not really. There is a significant difference between physical withdrawal symptoms and psychological "addiction".

The distinction may not seem as important in reference to cannabis because they are both usually quite mild, but there is indeed a difference.

/\Agreed.

It can be quite a strong psychological addiction if it has been used daily for a long time. In my case I've been a daily multiple times a day smoker for over 8 years. (mostly haze/good nugs).

Well my connection was locked up and made the switch over to spice products because I feel I NEED to smoke something at night (once daily now). Only good thing is that I can pass a drug test now while still getting baked daily.

But I still feel just like if I stayed on cannabis, so I decided to just abruptly stop and go through the insomnia and all that and see how I feel. It's been too long since I've been clean. I plan on doing that next week and report what I experience

Yeah I get the appetite disturbance, trouble sleeping and abit cranky, though by day 4 everythings cool (Currently on day 5 ;)) I can't say enough how good you feel taking a weeks break or so off toking when you're a daily user and tolerance/anxiety gets too high.

its kind of like quitting smoking cigarrettes
once its out of your body
you don't crave it as much
It is not at all like quitting cigarettes...

The only similarity is that you have to smoke, and that can become a habit.

Depression
Anxiety
Insomnia
Sweating
Lack of appetite
Lack of interest in things you enjoy
Apathy

That'll be about it. You'll become so much more clear-headed though and it's honestly so much easier than you'll expect it to be. Good luck mate and keep going ;)

^+1
Been smoking 5 years with breaks lasting up to 2 weeks tops few times a year.

Expect alot of very vivid dreams upon sleep.
Dreams can be a scary thing for a daily smoker ;)
That for me is the most profound effect of having breaks from weed tho ;)

Yea, the appetite thing is definitely the worst. I smoke every day just so I am able to eat. It actually kinda sucks. I want to be able to take a break right now, but by the end of the first 24 hours I go crazy and am way to anxious and I just cave.

If you can make it past the first week you'll be golden and eventually you will forget what you're missing. I recommend looking into some kava or something to help in the meantime. If you are having issues falling asleep tylenol pm works pretty good for me. Good luck.

Fuck, yea! I forgot about actually all of a sudden remembering your dreams again :)
They can be seriously interesting as well :) But, like Hithit said, sometimes a bit freaky.

Lack of appetite and insomnia seem to be the most common symptoms. It usually lasts about 4-5 days for me depending on how much I was smoking at the time. I also feel slightly anxious and restless at times. It can be very difficult to relax, particularly at night when you want to sleep.

The good thing about quitting though is you will have a much clearer head by day 2 or 3. I find that I don't fully return back to my normal mind state for about 2 weeks though. It will depend on how much you were smoking among other things.

The lack of enjoyment of daily activities is partially a behavioral effect IMO which can last longer than the other WD symptoms. You get used to be being high during a given activity so when you quit it feels like something is missing. This should go away with time.

The dreams can be super intense as others have mentioned. When I smoke pot everyday before bed I never dream so when I quit these dreams come back with a vengeance. I remember that when I had to quit for a drug test I would keep having dreams that I was with all my friends smoking. I would hit the bong and then suddenly realize that I was going to be drug tested. This would cause me to freak out and wake up. Weird.

I think the major withdrawal symptom of weed is just that you seem to have TONS more free time, and you are just bored. When you smoke, it killed a lot of time and made it seem like a lot of fun. I think is is because of this that, when I stop smoking, I feel kinda depressed and anxious.

^This is true. The best way to get through the WD is just to find something to do that will keep you entertained. This won't help with the insomnia and lack of appetite but it should help with the anxiety and depressive thoughts.

To help with the more physical symptoms I suggest you start exercising. This should stimulate your metabolism and appetite and will help make you feel tired enough to sleep.

Yea exercise does help, get those natural endorphins pumping will relieve a lot of the stress and anxiety. I suffer from agoraphobic panic disorder and I remember when I tried to quit years ago that I suffered daily panic attacks for the first few days and was so anxious I barely left the house. After day 3 of quitting cannabis it really does get easier and the anxiety will subside.

I am on Remeron (tricylic anti-depressant) and Klonopin (2-3mg daily but I skip days when I don't need it). I'm hoping these tools will help when I stop as I haven't had them in the past when trying to quit.

If you suffer from anxiety I highly recommend you get it treated as well as eat well and exercise. Since starting my meds I started cognitive behavioral therapy which basically teaches you good life skills and how to cope with situations that used to scare you so it really does help. I started using weed in the first place to cover up my disorder. It's only a shame it took so many years for me to realize it :(
