Quitting Weed

You can do it man. Just take a few week break, and every week after that just keep telling yourself one more week. Eventually it will be several months later with you having not smoked anything. If I make a "big deal" out of something like quitting a drug then it is harder for me.

today my will to quit is already subsiding...im already planning to buy myself some ganja tonight.

No matter how hard I try I never make it more then a day two tops. Good luck man only advice I have is try not to think about it.

I have a theory that the bestest way to use weed is to never exceed a few times a week -- the definition of "a few times" would depend on the user. But the idea of this frequency of smoking up is so that pot won't become a mere "getting fucked up" thing; instead the magic can be preserved and each use will be more fulfilling.

There is so much wisdom in the quote, "Everything in moderation." It applies to weed too. I believe the hardest thing about handling marijuana is that it's generally harmless compared to other drugs, so it's much more "OK" to use it very, very often. And in my case, the only thing holding me back from smoking as much as I want to is my own self and willpower. It takes a lot of self-discipline to use weed responsibly. But once responsible use is learned, the relationship with the drug is so much more rewarding, if only for the fact that you are in control, and not your desire to smoke.

try smoking at night only or reduce the amount of times you smoke a day to a few times only. I used to smoke a bowl every hour all day, but I cut that down to smoking at night. Its kind of difficult cause you start to realize you have all this time on your hand but nothing to do.

Exactly, you need to find a way to occupy the time that you used to spend smoking. Exercise and outdoor activities worked for me.

^This!

When I stop smoking for a while, I find the first 5 days to be a bitch. I just wanna say 'Fuck it' and have a smoke. But after those 5 days it gets much better, you get used to sobriety and the 'habit' of smoking seems to disapate. My advice, if you want it, would be to stop for a week or two then see how you feel - you might just want to stop for a while and try and work out a sensible smoking regime - or you might find you've had enough. You're not gonna have a clear head at the moment and the prospect of giving up will most likely seem far tougher that it will be. Good luck though.

A few times a month would be even better but its very hard to control. For me the only way to get there was to quit cold turkey for almost 6 months

Hey not an expert on this but just have experience from friends - if it's a reward your after maybe focus on the money you spend on weed and put it towards something else ie: holiday - shopping spree new phn etc - if you want to feel relaxed and chilled you can actually get other herbs which are better for you to help with that - "withania is a great herb and it chills me out gets rid of all anxiety and you can ususaly get natural herbs through a naturopath - just an idea anyway find the reason why and see if you can replace it with something better plus chepaer too - a friend of mine gave up and after 7mths of putting the money he would spend on weed went on a trip overseas - plus he did give up smoking as well. Good luck with your decission and hope it goes well for ya..

i want to quit smoking weed on the one hand, but on the other hand i dont. i can manage my life with weed, im doing ok. i still have friends, hobbies and i do ok at university. weed helps me relax and unwind and it gives me something to look forward to on a busy day.

you obviously do not want to quit, it will be an uphill battle the whole way. What I would suggest is maybe just cutting back a bit..

Something I've found to help me with this is to take a piece of paper and log the smokings of the day.

it'll look something like this:

Mon - 10am, 2pm, 6pm, 11pm
Tues - 9am, 3pm, 8pm, 12am
etc...

Try and keep at least 4 hours between your smokings, or something you feel more comforable with(I do 4 hours personally right now). After logging for a week or 2, try and move your window of "non-smoking time" up to 5-6 hours between dosings.

Eventually you'll be smoking less times a day, getting more done, and not having to eliminate something that you actually enjoy in life. You could continue the progress to only smoking once a day or less if you wish. I've found this to be an effective way to cut back, because let's face it: marijuana is awesome.

yep, thats seems to be the true - if you dont want to quit, then its impossible.
i can suggest one thing - you need a little bit sober time to think about surrounding things, and to get everything into place. i'm smoking regulary for two years now, and i take breaks for two or one and half a week to get everything in the place and educate myself. and it's going pretty easy.
if you want to do that, then you will do it, if you dont, then it's impossible.

I'm on day two of quitting weed. Yesterday evening was rough when I started fiending BAD for some bud. My girlfriend helped talk me through it and we ended up just playing some games and watching TV, which helped keep my mind off of it. It's nice that she's also quitting. It gives me some support and the mindset of "Hey, if she can do it, so can I."

When you get those cravings, find something else to do. It's really hard for me because I'm literally thinking about getting high 24/7, but that seems to be slowly fading and when I focus on some other task it goes away for a while.

Sadly I think one of the most helpful thing would be to avoid those you smoked with all the time.

I personally think you can smoke once a day with no great risk, and no major tolerance problems. Though I find weed to be pretty intense nowadays, so I find that when stoned, its all I am...Only music is really enjoyable, which is GOOD because I'm a musician of sorts.

Personally, I don't think it's worth quitting weed if it doesn't fuck with your life and you enjoy it. If you love getting high, then it will be very hard to give up something so awesome...

The only effective way of stopping something like this is to separate yourself from the people/things that make it easier to keep smoking. Not a very simple solution. It seems to be working for me, I've been in a situation where I haven't been able to get weed for almost 3 months, I am hoping to keep it up once I get back to college. We'll see how it goes.

^ bahaha, that post doesn't help me atm.

I'm trying to stop for 2 days because I start a new job on thursday and want to be crisper and more attentive, but its hard when you have huge amounts of weed just laying around...

Makes quitting so much harder, and I can't get rid of it. I mean all day I will tell myself I'm not going to smoke, and then the tiniest little excuse lights up in my brain and 10 minutes later I'm blazed out of my skull. And repeat. lol

Doesn't sound like you have that much of a problem, it took me years of abuse to fully realise that weed was the sole focus in my life, the fact that you notice this now is a good thing. Don't necessarily have to quit completely, just take up some new hobbies and interests to fill the time and keep the weed to the odd session.

Try smoking less every week, and try adding new things to your daily routine like working out.. It's all in your head man you can do it.

Man, when I was smoking I laughed at the thought of quitting, but now that I'm 4 days sober, it seems like I've gained back a lot of perspective I didn't know weed caused me to lose. I have a desire to smoke still, but to do it in more moderation. For me personally, smoking 3-5 times a day just became unmanageable. Somewhere between once a day and once a week is where I want to be, and I think I can achieve that. Not sure how long this break is gonna last, but since I've already made it to day 4 (more than I've managed to do in about 15 months), I might as well see if I can go a little longer.

Sorry if no one cares. Just thought I'd share my own personal experience here, since this is a thread about quitting weed.
