Hello all! Im new to posting on bluelight (posting anyway) and I was hoping for some advice/knowledge.

Im 25 years old and I have a great job as a Nurse in a long term care facility. I started experimenting with Oxycontin about 7 or 8 months ago while at work. It made me extra productive and happy (as long as I didn't do too much and started nodding) It doesn't really interfere with my life at all (so far) and no one has any clue I even do them. Especially my girlfriend and co-workers.

I insufflate around 40mg Oxycontin/day and sometimes ill snort maybe 1.5mg of Hydromorph and pop a few Percocet just for fun. I know my dosage is practically nothing compared to the people who use much more but everyone starts somewhere and i want to stop before i fuck up my life. I need to quit before it is too late. This post is my first step, hopefully i cought it soon enough to be able to kick it and move on.

My issue is I'm going to be around this drug for the rest of my working days, as i dispense it on a daily basis. I cant help but be worried i will start to steal it from people who actually need it (which is wrong but addiction can make good people do terrible things).

Cold turkey seems like my only available option as going for treatment might jeopardize my job. I would very much like to keep this to myself and just man up and take the withdrawals and move on.

Fortunately due to my career i do have a lot of medications at my disposal that could help me through this process like Gravol, Immodoum, ephedrine, benadryl and the likes. I have some really good grass that really helps with the insomnia and Tiger Balm does great for the muscle aches and restless legs.

I'm just wondering roughly how long my withdrawals will last with my dosing so i can *TRY* and take some time off work. Does the withdrawal process happen in stages? How do i know when I'm approaching the light at the end of the tunnel.?

Any support or input would be greatly appreciated. I have tried to kick it before but i made excuses to start again after maybe 3 or 4 days.

Thanks in advance

Welcome! You realized the sneakiness of opiates far sooner than many do. Since you havent been taking a high dose and 8 months isnt years, you should escape this RELATIVELY easily. First, yes the withdrawals kind of come in stages. In general you will start to have a runny nose and start to become achy about 24 hours after your last dose. From Day 1-Day 4 are really the physical withdrawals and usually I will start feeling better by about Day 5 or 6 and then it just gets progressively better. You will know when your withdrawals are at their worst because it will be hard to sleep, as soon as you begin to fall back into regular sleep patterns you will begin to feel better. This is my personal experience. In order to successfully kick you have to seriously consider if you WANT to quit, nothing else. If you dont want to quit then dont try too because you will fail 99% of the time. Since you are frequently around the drug you are actively addicted to Im afraid to say you will have to work everyday to WANT to be off opiates. This is the truth and I hope this post helps you in some way. Good luck man

BTW - Imodium you will need, and benzos/benadryl for sleep. Dont dive too deep in the benzos though.

Hey dude, I aint tellin you to get out, I'm just sayin it's easiest now.I started my opiate use at 14; fuck.

Even though you say it hasn't affected your relationship with your girl, it has or it will. You're high, it takes a toll on your personality and mind you'll only realize once you've become sober. In my case she left not cuz of my drug use, but because of how i had become; a direct effect of my drug use.

It's a rough road man, I hope you have the strength to come back.

it sounds like youve quit before with no wd, either way it shouldnt be bad at all, maybe just take a vicoden for a couple days and you should be good, then its all the mental game.

If u have only been messing with them for 7-8 months (it probably seems like a long time but relatively speaking your just starting out) and on 40/day you should be able to handle the WD's without to much pain. Its still gonna suck but if you don't do it now, you'll be in the same place a year from now but doing double or triple that amount and its going to be a WHOLE LOT harder to get yourself out of that one

If you already feel like your an "addict" its going to be almost impossible for you to have access to those pills and not take them. I DO HOPE THAT IM WRONG.. but thats a tough situation. Def start to taper or take opi's that arent as strong as oxy's...if you don't get a handle on it now its just going to get worse and eventually you are going to get caught. I hope you are able to continue your job safely without putting your health/sobriety at risk.
If you give yourself a few days to go through the wd's you should be good. i think it wont be to bad coming off of 40/day. Wont be fun but it wont be fucking blinding pain and agony..
one more thing, if you can maybe you can find someone to talk to about it. even just one person who wont judge you and will be supportive will do a world of good
