Hello from Finland!
I thought I should share how I am going through tapering and eventually quitting totally my oxycodone use.
I am currently tapering down from 140mg daily use of oxycodone for a long time due really bad back pain which luckily got fixed by latest surgery. I have been able to taper down 10mg per week and I am currently on 70mg per day so it is half way to opiate free times.
My Dr. is truly a god send for me since he simply asked how I would like to taper off and I told him that I would like to taper 10mg per week until I reach 10mg and then I would switch to 5mg and then quit and he just said Ok. I also asked him to get me a contract with local pharmacy so instead of getting multi month supply of drugs at once I'll get my drugs twice a week so I can't use more than I am supposed and can't go Dr. shopping either as only my current Dr's clinic can prescribe painkillers and similar CNS acting drugs.
Also he put me on waiting list for somnography or whatever the english term is for test in which you sleep on hospital and they check for sleep related issues such as RLS or similar. I did experience RLS symptoms before starting oxycodone so my Dr. said that stopping opiates will give rebound symptoms as the RLS had been treated with opiates during this time and they will need to get some medication for me if RLS comes back after quitting.
He also said I can go to counceling anytime if need arises and he'll give prescription to sleep aids and klonopins for treating RLS asap I start having symptoms and I'll get appointment to psychiatrist if PAWS or similar long term withdrawal symptoms appear.
No bigger problems in particular atm. but I do sometimes crave for more oxycodone and it has been escalating recently but I have managed to combat this by allowing me to do something I like such as building and painting miniatures, going to race circuit with my 300M etc.
