I was blown up a few too many times and shot in the military. Due to these injuries I have been on pain medication for quite a whole. I have never felt I really NEEDED it to get by in terms of that I craved it. But I tried just stopping and went into withdrawals. No bueno.

I am thinking about going on suboxone or something and counseling to get off. Due to my experience with the Va I feel like I would be ostracized by the doctors. And if I did have issues down the line and do need meds for any reason, it would make it even harder than it already is to get help.

So my question is this, does the Va report to the Illinois pmp, or vice versa so I can get help privately without the Va finding out? Or should I just go through the Va?

Keep in mind that if you require medication for legitimate pain down the road and you are on suboxone that the VA doesn't know about, you may encounter an issue with actually resolving your pain problems later or... it could just be a matter of personal ethics

Hey klup. Welcome to BL<3 I'm sorry for your wounds and pain, as well as the resulting dependency on the painkillers.. but you can get off them if you desire, allot of BL have. Opiates work good for pain in the short run.. but then unfortunately they end up accentuating the pain in the long run, what originally took the pain away or made it more bearable may now making it a lot worse than it really is. If you don't mind sharing what kind of medicine are you on and how much do you take? how long have you been on the pain meds total. I ask this as it has relevance to weather you would benefit from suboxone or if it would be in your best interest just to try and get off the medication you are on. If you include the original dose or a drug and dose progression the good people at blue light may gain insight as to how much pain you were originally in thus where you could find yourself if you decide to take yourself off. Subutex has certain advantages but one huge disadvantage is it is really nasty to get off if you use for more than a taper. share whatever you feel comfortable with.. there are a lot of good people here that know what you are struggling with. The VA health system is not the most respected entity out there:)
