Well I had to make the choice this weekend. Elysium or summer festival. Im sure the festival will be great but I find with big events that it is just not as fun. also the lack of money was a factor as well

i enjoy the small events were it is hard to loose your friends, where there arent as many 'non-plur' people I was just wondering what everyone else's choices were.
PS Uni is over, It's going to be a crazy summer thats for sure! hope everyone did well in there exams and I hope your all going to party hard this summer

Before this thread gets huge, can I just say that it would be good if you we could just say why you like your particular type of rave, and not overly bag the other.
I personally like both, a small intimate rave can generate a fantastic vibe, but looking back at a 5,000+ crowd while reaching for the lasers to a fantastic tune is equally awesome.

I prefer the small, intimate parties.
They are much more personal and have a very comfortable vibe about them.
Also, they are cheaper (or free), sound is usually better (smaller venue) and it doesn't take 30 minutes to get to the toilet and back!

deririous? elysium? CHOICE?!?!?
bah, going to both

i personally prefer smaller parties for the atmosphere (more love, more intensity). however, there is definately something to be said for large events, where it is possible to walk in a random direction for 5 mins and still be surrounded by music and people going off (lees love though).
see you out this weekend

Close and Personal with the Dj and your friends. Small!

Can somebody Please slap/tickle me balls?

Personally, I find its the combination of allthe other elements that make the difference.
It doesn't really matter be it 200 or 2000, if they are all really nice and friendly with the right attitude, the tunes are doing it, the atmos is buzzn,it aint too crowded, and all your friends are with you , and most of all... every body is happy and having a good time.
remember those important words........
"SIZE DOESNT MATTER"
now where have I heard that before?????

Yeah...
hmm...
well..if the small intimate parties had a shit crowd..i would dislike them equally as much as big 'professional' parties with a shit crowd...
I dunno..i guess it would be a fuck of a rush to play in shed 14 to 7000 people, with a big fuck off laser behind ur head, burning ur hairrs.....
But small parties are also good... i think its a mixup of crowd, promotions, venue etc..
But lately i'd much prefer the small illegit party deal, or free party deal

I like them small.......thats why teriyaki is what it is. Close and personal. And cheaper.
Nothing does more for my EGO than playing to 5000 people with (as Serotone said) "a big fuck off laser behind ur head, burning ur hairrs....."....Its pretty special.
The downside is that 75% of the people there usually dont know who's playing or really give a shit.
I asked about ten people at the last hardware
who was playing and no-one knew.....it was Cari Lekebusch.
But playing to a small crowd where I can see the people, can talk to them....its different....not better no worse......just different.
But I still prefer little parties.

The small intimate crowds are my favourites, I've always had more fun with a smaller crowd, usually because the parties with a smaller crowd are more underground and the people who are there are there because they love the music, and know who they're going to see and aren't going just because it's a 'rave'. As far as I'm concerned the problem with the bigger parties is that too many people are wandering around not paying any attention to the other people around them. This gives the party a less intimate feel, makes it seem as if you're alone amoungst a huge crowd. Thankfully most of the time that I get that feeling I'll just go and speak to one of these strangers and end up having a nice convo, but none-the-less the feeling is still there... It's much less obvious in a small party. Now I know most people are strangers and not everyone can be expected to be PLUR maniacs and run around hugging everyone, but in the smaller parties the atmosphere is a lot more PLUR-conductive (in that good way, not the running-around-hugging-everyone-madly way, which isn't really a bad way, but... argh! I know what I mean, if the rest of you don't, too bad!!!)
Hmm, short response morphed into a ramble... must be the sudafed kicking in

dee dee - one thing that I always think when I'm playing (especially if I chuck in a bad mix):
95% of the people in the room don't know shit.
That's why Will-E-Tell is so popular.

I agree that the smaller parties have a better atmosphere. There is usually a select crowd that have come for the type of music played. At a major rave there are different types of Techno, therefore you get a diverse crowd. I do pity those that come for no reason other than to get off their faces. But we all have to start somewhere.
There was something about Two Tribes, in the Hardware shed that made it an exceptionally good crowd. I put it down to the three international playing after one and other.
And Macro was one of the best i've heard.
Therefore i have my ticket for Summer Daze. Smith, Mull, then Beyer. I'm there.
I'm there for the music.
Lets teach the masses a music lesson.

i like em BIG!! i think its cause you get to see so many funky people around you all at once and you kinda feel like your in your own land hahahaha
dont get me wrong small ones are good 2 but your more likely to see more of your fave dj's and be able to breathe alot better at bigger parties!

I reckon it depends ...... sometimes i wanna do the big commercial cheesy dance party, and other times i prefer smaller, bush doof type parties .... both are good, but depends what kinda mind set you're in
