No ;-)
Two friends, Ewoud & Michael, invented the kit in 1996.
It was put on the market in late 1997
I just copied their info leaflet and put it on the Internet in late 1997 and on the way I got involved the way I am now.
Now, what are the questions ?
aj

ok, well one concern of mine was priceing. if we want everyone to go out and buy these kits and be safe, then why are they so expensive? 25 dollars? i know that isnt anywhere near what you guys pay to make them, since we (dancesafe) get them for about 10 dollars a piece. one of the biggest things that turnpeople away from buying the kits at our booths is the price, and we only charge 20 for them. if, as a whole, the price is reduced, i think that a lot more people would be willing to buy them.
your thought?

We sell for 20 Euro, not 25 Dollars.
Well, here we go:
20 Euro
minus
tax 17,5% = 3,5
cc fee 5% = 1 (for Visa etc)
p&p 2 Euro
left 13,5 Euro
Now the test still has to be made, packed, put in container, add a leaflet.
Is setting a price of apx. 4 Euro for the whole thing OK ??
13,5 - 4 = 9,5 Euro
Now, deduct costs for the website, costs for a small office, cost for storage of material and keeping stock, telephone costs, fax costs, etc. Just everything that comes with a small company. Oh, and I forgot the SSL certificate, that's apx. 300 US Dollars a year
Really, you won't get rich from it.
Also, if people can spend 20-40 US Dollars on a pill, then they have no excuse not spending 20 Euro on a test kit (or $25 for the DanceSafe kit).
Regards
aj

Spencer:
Your guys at Dancesafe are the ones selling the kit for $25. Your guys at Dancesafe don't have to ship it overseas. Your guys at Dancesafe use the original test with no modifications to increase performance. You should ask your guys at Dancesafe why they sell it for $25, especially when they can sell them to local chapters for $10.

drumass: that is an extremly valid point, and i will ask them why they sel them for so much on the web site. we, as local chapters, are allowed to sell them for whatever we want. my chapter sells them for 20 a piece, but i am going to push for that to get lowered to 15.
Aj: thanks for the info. i wasnt pointing an accusing finger at you or EZ test, i was just trying to find out why.
another question- in 2 posts you have said that pills that have speed and MDMA have an odd reaction. what, exactly, is that reaction. since i do work for a harm reduction group, this info iwould be very useful and vital to me.
i have come across a pill that, when tested, parts turned purple, parts turned orange, and then mixed together as the sloution and pills bits mixed together. i obviously deduced that this was "a speed like substance" and MD*. is this the "odd" reaction you were refering to?

"what, exactly, is that reaction"
Not the typical to purple reaction.
"when tested, parts turned purple, parts turned orange"
I'd say it is not an xtc like substance.
