hi

I am moving across the country shortly and as such will be bringing all of my medication with me on the plane (domestic flight within the US).

I am prescribed bupe, adderall, and alprazolam. The problem is that I am over-prescribed all 3 of them by quite a bit. Consequently, I have about 10 prescription bottles of each one of these controlled substances. Now all of these bottles are properly labeled and I am legitimately prescribed them, but I am just worried about getting through security when they see 30-40 bottles of prescription pills in my bag. Is this likely to cause a problem? I was thinking of combining the pills from several bottles into one so that I have fewer bottles, but then I will have more pills in the bottle than it states on the label, which might cause problems.

Also, am I better off putting them in my carry on or in my checked bag.

I am basically just concerned that they will see the 30-40 bottles and then choose to invistigate further. And if they do investigate, it opens up the question of why I have soooo many more pills than I seem to need.

So, any cause for concern here, or should everything go over well? Thanks.

You could always go the pharmacy that you got the prescriptions at and ask them for the largest bottle that they have then also have them print out copys of all of the labels from the individual bottles or one new label for the large bottle. Just make sure you have documentation from the pharmacy that all the prescriptions are legit and that you do not have any duplicate prescriptions.

I once knew a lady that took 4 compounded 75mg oxycodone ir every 4 hours, day in and day out and she received her pills in a bag with a the pharmacy label on it and she had a smaller bottle with the same label on it so she could carry her meds with her.

DO NOT put it in checked bags, you may never see it again.

My guess is that it would raise some flags if it's discovered.

Your best bet might be to mail them or get some written proof from your doctor.

I'm going to have to close this.
