This is a hypothetical scenario. I'm just curious what the legal ramifications would be.

Say we have two young men, Rick and James.
Rick texts James and asks him if he can sell him some adderal. James says that he can but that he currently doesn't have any. Rick only wants a very small amount of adderal, just a few pills.
James says he can probably get it for him sometime next week. However, James is unable to obtain any adderal. He tells Rick that he couldn't get it and that he'll let him know when he gets some.
A few days goes by and James realizes that adderal is illegal to sell. James was unaware of this before- he assumed that because adderal is a prescription drug, selling it is not punishable by the law. He thought the punishment would be a fine or losing the prescription to it.
James has NEVER sold adderal to anybody in his life. Upon finding out that adderal is illegal, he texts Rick and clearly explains to him that Adderal is illegal to sell. James tells Rick that he won't be able to sell the adderal or give it to him because he now knows it's an illegal act.

Would James be charged with drug trafficking in this situation? He NEVER accepted any money from Rick.
