A friend of mine just told me that any bud can be purple regardless of strain or anything. All it is is low tempurature that makes it go purple.

Is this true? How cold/how long/when do you do it? And why in gods name dont more people do it?

I don't know if this statement is true or not...
But some of my plant did indeed turn purple and they are a strain called "Black Diamond". I found it a little weird.

I normally dislike Cannabis Culture with a passion (or anything else Emery-related; you'd know if you came from his hometown... or probably if you've ever done business with him,) but this cartoon from them sums up the question at hand nicely

any plant can produce purple bits, but only certain strains will produce deeply purple buds and leaves.

because weed doesn't grow as well in the cold. and purple doesn't mean jack anyways. the only reason to make weed purple is to take advantage of ignorant stoners.. course there are a lot of them out there :\

I was under the impression that the cold can cause phosphorous lockout, which would cause plants' leaves to purple at least, but I could be wrong there.

Not all plants have the ability to turn purple (due to the cold). But for the strains that do have this genetic predisposition; the cold switches on something in the plant that makes it produce (more) anthocyanin pigments (than normally), these give the plants their purple colour. Some strains don't need the cold, others do.

for example white rhino and bubblicious have a tendancy to turn purple..i know every time i do a rhino grow it turns purple to a certain extent if not completly..but usually when it dries out you can barely see the purp..turns more into a brownish color, but has a purple hue under certain light...

edit: in cold temps
