Hello, I have been on citalopram (celexa..whatever) for about 2 and a half years (20mg for 2 years, 40 for the past 3 months), it has worked for me thus far, nevertheless one of my psychs told me I might not need them due to the fact I started them during a "depression" I was diagnosed with whilst being clean off Heroin for less than 60 days. So he suggested the "depression" was just PAWs and that I may not need it. Now my life is great, everything is beautiful, 28 months off the H and it's all round groovy. But recently my antidepressant has been having negative reactions with other things I'm trying to do in my life.

Thus my question. I am going to do a taper from my meds and see how it goes. I know this is usually looked down upon/often referred to as a "bad idea" but I'm taking a calculated risk as in that I can't see my psych for a couple weeks and my curiosity for the legitimate well being of my mental health is gnawing at me. Please refrain from talking me out of it, I have a very low level risk with my psych shit.

my schedual:
20mg for 1 week
10mg for 4 days
5mg for 4 days
none

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

probs better off getting a taper plan together with your pysch. 20mg til you can see your psych again, see how you feel? Safe option :)

I'm currently tapering from escitalopram. Currently down from 10mg - 5mg. Been down to 5mg for 10 days. I was going to start cutting down further after 7 days but I experienced some pretty black thoughts and black physical sensations during the week. I'm also finding myself staring into space thinking about loss, death, having worries about losing loved ones, etc, occasionally.

I have also experienced some very promising positive effects from the taper, too: my sleep has greatly improved, my mental focus is sharper, and I'm starting to see a gradual increase in libido, back to normal levels for a man my age.

Easy does it! :) Good luck.

The best taper plan for you will be what your prescribing doctor recommends. All the best. <3
