OK, I hope this is the right place to post.
My girlfriend has been a heroin addict for the last 7 years, she no longer gets her period. She has also gone to 6 months of rehab no drugs or alcohol and also not had her period. So when she's strung out she can't get pregnant. However we are now on suboxone, while we do use occasionally we're mostly just on the subs. But we don't use contraceptives, and I don't pull out. So since she doesn't get her period and even after 6 months of totally being straight, she doesn't get her period. Her doctors even said she can't have kids, because of the heroin addiction. So do you think i could get her pregnant now that we're mostly on the suboxone?

Is this even the right place to pose and ask. I'm confused but wondering if I shoudl buy the family starter pack of pregnancy tests just in case. and it's not like even if she gets pregnant we'll have kids, cause we're all about women's rights.

LO fucking L. Yeah, I'm sure you're all about women's rights when she gets knocked up. I think even for those who are pro-choice have to see how irresponsible this sounds. Dude, just because she's not having her period regularly doesn't mean she can't get pregnant.

I think this question can be best answered in Healthy Living.

OD --> HL

if it shows positive they could just take a morning after pill. i don't think it's a big deal, even if he worded what he said in a non-PC way

USE BIRTH CONTROL.

What kind of stupid ass reasoning is this? Never mind birth control, let's just piss on a stick regularly? Never mind birth control, let's pray we get a morning after pill soon enough? Never mind birth control, we'll just get an abortion?

Unless she has a seperate medical condition that has made her sterile, Heroin addiction is not a form of birth control. It is entirely possible for a female Heroin addict to become pregnant, it happens a lot.

If she does get pregnant and you choose to keep the baby, the safest thing to do is have her switch from Buprenorphine to Methadone during the period of pregnancy, and after birth she can switch back. Numerous studies have been done on pregnant Heroin addicts, pregnant MMT and BMT patients, and addicted and dependant women who get on Methadone during their pregnancy have excellent results- the best chance for a fully healthy baby.

So yes, you may want to invest in a pack of pregnancy tests to keep on hand. She can get pregnant.

Is having no periods a common side effect of H addiction? I've never heard of this before, even though I've been (or was) in the smack scene for years.

As for the OP - fucking hell. Are you basically saying you intend to use abortion as a means of birth control? I mean, I'm all for choice - but that sounds a little extreme, and TBH just plain wrong.

Why can't you at least pull out?

Disregarding the whole morality thing of whether it's right to use abortion as a form of contraception, it's not exactly a walk in the park to abort a baby - for many women it's really traumatic, especially because of all the hormones involved in pregnancy. What with coping with a heroin addiction, would she really need that kind of stress?

Also, re: the morning after pill, you can only take that up to 72 hours after unprotected sex, and I could be wrong, but pregnancy tests don't usually work until some time after. The ones I've bought won't show a positive until a week after the missed period.
