i leaned back on the steps one evening;
the sky was dark and cloudy.
something about it drew me in,
so i relaxed and watched it anyway.
the snowflakes began to fall.
at first they were small and dainty,
like mum petals that someone
plucked and let rain on my face.
then they were more numerous.
like delicate dust particles
that were too beautiful to be
swept away by a broom.
the light that bathed the building
made the snow look like fireflies,
luminescent and glowing
from some unseen bulb.
i looked at the flakes that
clung to my coat.
crystalline representations of
ladies' skirts and diamond earrings.
prancing ballerinas tumbling from the sky,
collecting on the bushes,
and sidewalks, and rooftops.
dancing together in one big show,
like a troupe of four-year-olds in
their first recital, giddy with
expectation and the excitement to
impress and please the onlookers.
such a serene landscape that snow presents
for us. how often do we really
appreciate it? we see it as too much a
burden, and not enough as beauty.
======================
i love snow.
