Recently, it has been brought to my attention that there are some movies out there whose plots have striking similarities and references to effects of drugs and are sometimes even hinted at in dialogue (example: mescaline and The Matrix). I want to compile a list of subliminally drug-influenced movies, so that I can review them with a different perspective. Kudos for the particular drug referenced with details of how it was implemented. I'll list a few:

The Matrix - mescaline
The Mask - ecstasy (Jim Carrey wears mask and is much more energetic, sexual, spontaneous, and daring. Wearer has faint memory of events of previous night. 'The Mask' is sought after by antagonist crime boss and police)
Alice in Wonderland - psilocybin and various disassociatives

It's funny you mention the mask, I was watching it last night and it made me think it's as though Jim Carrey is on drugs. First time ove watched it as an adult and it had a completely different perspective.

Apocalypse now is very psychedelic, everything from the opening shot to all the surreal shots, the doors songs, the insanity going around. One of the soldiers actually drops acid in the movie, and in the documentary it is acknowledged that there was a lot of drug use among the actors, quite a few were using various drugs, including lsd, during parts of the movie.

Yes, I had watched The Mask fairly recently, and watching it as an adult, it almost seems blatantly obvious that the film's premise is about drugs, particularly extacy.

I read about the Apocalypse Now movie after reading your post and it sounds like an awesome movie. I'm surprised that I've never heard of it until now. I will check it out.

Training Day seemed inspired by dissociatives + cannabis/ stimulants. Besides the obvious PCP smoking scene, the movie has a very dissociative feel to it, as in the white guy (can't think of his name) doesn't know exactly what's up until the end, like a strong dissociatives trip.

Great thread bro

The Matrix - mescaline

it actually occurred to me that in the scene where Morpheus hands Neo the two pills, the blue one and the red one, the Red one (the one that wakes you up from Matrix) looks nearly identical to the coricidin pills which contain DXM. (there appear to be many types of that pills, I'm referring to these ones:

and this is the scene from the movie

EDIT: I don't know if you can see the images, but I can't repost them since it would take like 10 minutes per image with this shitty connection of mine. I think you got the point

Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind..

I don't know exactly which drug it would be, but.. I sure felt fucked in the head after watching that movie.
